Berlusconi still won't concede to Prodi
Premier Silvio Berlusconi is hanging tough, refusing to concede defeat to his opponent, Romano Prodi.

Berlusconi has not made any public comments since the court's announcement on Wednesday that Prodi had won the lower house by 24 755 votes - a margin virtually unchanged from the one previously announced.

But Italian newspapers yesterday said the premier remained as combative as ever. "We'll fight. They'll have to deal with us," he was quoted as saying in La Repubblica, a left-leaning daily.

4. This is just Berlusconi's attempt to sidetrack Prodi's government
He wants to keep Prodi fighting him instead of governing the country so that they can call an early election because Prodi getting nothing done.

6. He is "hanging tough"????
Do you remember the desxcriptions of Gore's reasonable request that the Florida vote be recounted? Did any one of them portray it in a positive manner? But berlusconi, who has already had the top court decide that he lost is "hanging tough"??? He's causing a very dangerous crisis in Italian government. He needs to be told that it is well and truly over, and let's hope to God that Prodi investigates his ass fully.

10. Oh, Bush bailed on Berluscandal today

Standard honor levels among thieves are still operative, obviously.

Actually, I bet Prodi gave Bush what he asked for in return- Italy staying in Iraq until November.

I bet Blair bails on Sylvio tomorrow. Leaving Putin holding the highly odoriferous bag, so to speak, and Putin will drop it too.

After that it's a matter of internal fraying of the Italian Right coalition, which they have no trouble doing whatsoever and demonstrated last May. Prodi has to get that one Rightist party to bail out of the coalition, that's the game, and then it's curtains.

8. Berlusconi is nuts the way Bush/Cheney are nuts. They think they rule by
right, not by consent--and they put their corporate interests and personal power ahead of the good the country. If Diebold and ES&S hadn't "re-selected" Bush/Cheney in 2004, and if the war profiteering corporate news monopolies hadn't fiddled their exit polls to match the results of Diebold/ES&S's secret vote tabulation software, and if the Democrats hadn't caved, we might have had a similar situation here. Bush/Cheney were not about to hand over the reigns of power--not with the crimes THEY have committed and the potential investigations.

So, in a way, Berlusconi and Bush/Cheney are right. They don't rule by consent. They rule by personal power, by hook and by crook, by manipulation, lies and deceit, by purges of dissenters, by bullying, by swiftboating, by cruelty, by bribery and war and torture and skulduggery, and they view those they rule over as slaves and cannon fodder. How dare the peasants think that they have any say in who rules?
