Bush tells Iraq leaders to stop violence

The US president has lauded Iraq's breakthrough towards forming a permanent government while stressing that Baghdad's new leaders have to get to work fighting the armed anti-government uprising.

But on Sunday, in the latest spasm of violence, a rocket attack on a Baghdad car park reportedly killed seven people, a bomb killed three US soldiers northwest of the capital and the bodies of six youths, with bullet wounds to the head, were found in the city.

With Shia militias and death squads operating unchecked and a Sunni revolt raging, George Bush said on Sunday he told the country's new leaders that they have a responsibility to stop the violence and to unite the country.

"I told them they have awesome responsibilities to their people," Bush said in Twentynine Palms, California, of his telephone calls on Sunday to Jawad al-Maliki, the prime minister-designate, Jalal Talabani, the president, and Mahmud Mashhadani, the new parliament speaker.

It would be nice if bush and his goons would stop the violence as well. Violence begets violence. The following staement has been said many many times, but bears repeating, What a fuckin' idiot bush is. Does he not understand that the invasion of Iraq caused much of the violence? What a fuckin' idiot. Oh sorry, I just said that.

15. Wow, who knew it was that simple?
All they have to do is tell the people (to whom they have "awesome responsibilities") to just stop it. Now! Or the decider will stomp his tiny feet and throw a temper tantrum.

We should be seeing the results of this soon. :sarcasm:

Does the Bush administration truly have an interest in seeing an end to the violence? Perhaps not.

"A key figure in the development of the Special Police Commandos was James Steele, a former US Army special forces operative who cut his teeth in Vietnam before moving on to direct the US military mission in El Salvador at the height of that country’s civil war…. Another US contributor was the same Steven Casteel who as the most senior US advisor within the Interior Ministry brushed off serious and well-substantiated accusations of appalling human right violations as 'rumor and innuendo’….Casteel’s background is significant because this kind of intelligence-gathering support role and the production of death lists are characteristic of US involvement in counterinsurgency programs and constitute the underlying thread in what can appear to be random, disjointed killing sprees."

Needless, to say, the CIA does not move major assets like Steele and Casteel into a prickly situation like Iraq to shuffle papers by a water-cooler. These are the main gears in the machinery of the Iraqi death squads and they illustrate the real motive behind Washington’s campaign of terror. There is nothing either "random" or "disjointed" in the butchery produced by their labors.
