Bush Says He Tried to Avoid War 'To The Max,' Explains How God Shapes His Foreign Policy

NEW YORK President Bush today said he had tried to avoid war with Iraq "diplomatically to the max."

Speaking to a business group in Irvine, Ca., he admitted mistakes were made in planning for the Iraq invasion, but he defended the troop level, saying "it was the troop level necessary to do the job," and he would commit the same number if given a second chance.

...

Bush also explained, in unusually stark terms, how his belief in God influences his foreign policy. "I base a lot of my foreign policy decisions on some things that I think are true," he said. "One, I believe there's an Almighty. And, secondly, I believe one of the great gifts of the Almighty is the desire in everybody's soul, regardless of what you look like or where you live, to be free.

"I believe liberty is universal. I believe people want to be free. And I know that democracies do not war with each other."

107. no, I think he believes it
He thinks he is a diplomat but he has no idea what diplomacy is.

He admits he's an ideologue--makes decisions based on what he thinks should happen, rather than realities.

He thinks all you have to do is have your heart in the right place and everything will turn out all right in the end.

He can't see the world any other way than the narrow one he's chosen. Just can't do it.

As Kerry put it, "you can be certain, but you can be wrong."

116. Don't be superficial
if you read the exact wording used in his quotation you'll find it obvious he is making a desperate attempt to regain favour of his religious base by stating his policies are divinely inspired.

It has nothing to do with the 60% of America that rather see him go. He/His handlers know they cannot be persuaded anymore, so he's betting all his money on the delusional christian fanatics by posing as a man of god.

35. You are right, Bush should be committed to a mental institution
I am reminded of David Cronenberg's version of Stephen King's The Dead Zone (1983) in which Martin Sheen plays Greg Stillson, an American President with a Messianic complex that pushes the nuclear button in order to bring about the Second Coming.

Bush is a real-life Greg Stillson!

31. He dismissed millions of people against war as a "focus group."
UN inspectors had to haul ass out of Iraq because of US war plans.

Known fake intelligence was used in the State of the Union speech to dupe the American People.

But Bush claims he used diplomacy "to the max."

What a godawful liar.

Bush abandoned the war on the real enemy so that his big oil cronies could sit on top of all that oil.

I guess that's what he calls diplomacy to the max.

141. Then why is this man smiling?
Call him crazy. Call him a liar. He may be smiling because either he is totally out of it or, he and his cronies have trillions of our tax dollars in their private banks, no matter what the outcome. How many innocent people have been killed and murdered "because God told him to bring democracy to the world"? Nauseating.

33. Idiot or Liar? Either way, Bush is unfit for office.
This seems like the appropriate thread to re-post this gem from August 2003:

by John V. Whitbeck

On July 25 (2003), President George W. Bush made a truly staggering statement to the press after a meeting with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

“The fundamental question is, did Saddam Hussein have a weapons program? And the answer is, absolutely. And we gave him a chance to allow inspectors in, and he wouldn’t let them in. And therefore, after a reasonable request, we decided to remove him from power, along with other nations, so as to make sure he was not a threat to the United States and our friends and allies in the region.”

This statement is worth reading carefully. The president of the United States has stated, in a public forum, that he invaded Iraq because Saddam Hussein would not allow weapons inspectors back into his country. So far as I am aware, this statement has not been the subject of any serious critical analysis in the mainstream American media. I will therefore provide my own brief analysis. Assuming, as seems reasonable, that the president of the United States was neither drunk nor on LSD, there can be only two possible explanations for this statement:

Explanation 1: The president of the United States believed what he said. In this case, he is so dim-witted and/or totally divorced from reality as to be mentally unfit to hold his current job — or, indeed, any job — and should be taken into medical care.

Explanation 2: The president did not believe what he said but, rather, believes (unfortunately not without compelling post-Sept.11 evidence) that the vast majority of the American people are so dim-witted and/or uninformed and the vast majority of the American media is so sycophantic and/or terrified of being branded “unpatriotic” (or simply losing White House “access”) that he can now tell any lie, no matter how obvious and outrageous, and get away with it. In this case, he is morally unfit to hold his current job and should, by constitutional means, be forced to relinquish it as soon as possible.

Either explanation should scare the wits out of anyone who is not comatose.

When a single individual combines ignorance, immorality, dry-drunk syndrome, a publicly proclaimed commitment to perpetual military domination of the entire world by his country, a publicly expressed belief that God personally instructs him to make war on specific countries and a wildly irrational born-again brand of Christianity that views the Battle of Armageddon and the consequent end of life on earth as desirable developments and, at the same time, has command authority over an arsenal of weapons of mass destruction more than sufficient to achieve the end of life on earth, it is difficult to argue that this individual is not the most dangerous person who has ever lived.

When (if ever) will the American people wake up to the real threat facing America and the world?

98. Idio or Liar? Either Way Bush Unfit to Hold Office
At the finale of the 2000 election, I knew without any doubt
GWB was unfit to hold office. Whoever believed a blatant thief
would turn out to be a president this country could be proud
of was either brain dead or kidding themselves. The reality
that it has taken over 5 years for a majority to finally come
to the realization Bush is a pathological liar, a thief,
warmonger, and a religious zealot with delusions of empire,
grandeur and deity is in itself disquieting. Now we have the
CIA purging its own--who's next? I'm sure this is at the
direction of the "decider" and his slithering
handlers.
I agree Bush is dangerous and needs to be locked up along with
his equally delusional cabinet and followers. If a person
really wants to scare the hell out of themselves, just take a
few minutes to concentrate on the fact this gang has at their
disposal the greatest nuclear arsenal in the world and they're
just itching TO USE IT!!!

Edited on Mon Apr-24-06 06:29 PM by superconnected
This I'm innocent and didn't want war, and *God* stuff and how he wants everyone to be *free* is grossly hypocritical in lieu of the fact that his administration was the only one trying to get the United Nations to go to war with Iraq.

The United Nations was voting NOT to attack Iraq. The Bush administration was pushing for it.

So who would he have to argue against to try and stop the war? N O B O D Y.

This is a gross abberation of the truth. Bringing *God* and *patriotism* into it just makes it grosser.

It's times like this when the fact that he is truly evil shines through with stunning clarity.

38. If this guy believes in God, I believe in L. Ron freakin' Hubbard
Bush has faith in ONE thing and one thing only, and in case there's any confusion about this, let me spell it out for you as plainly as I can. This is what Bush worships:

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

This is Bush's sun and his moon, his alpha and his omega, his first and his last, his morning and his night. This is Bush's God supreme. And he takes his orders from those who deal MOST in $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$(etc.), and they are the first word he hears in the morning and the last word he hears at night, and as long as he worships this, you and anyone else who might be reading this do not register on his little radar screen. You are, quite frankly, screwed.

He's being the false prophet acting like he's of God.

He KNOWS he was the aggressor there. That's why this is so sick. People will read that and believe him. It's designed for them to respond to him as being "Godly", and it couldn't be further from the truth. He stands on lies. He KNOWS it.

He said he was too busy in his first term. That's odd, he had all that time for fundraisers. I guess he was afraid of being struck by lightening for lying and killing and taking the Lord's name in vain. God doesn't like it when his people do those things.

Jimmy Carter not only went to church every Sunday when he was President, he also taught a Sunday School class.

He also said: "It's not easy work, by the way, to go from tyranny to democracy. We had kind of a round go ourself, if you look back at our history. My Secretary of State's relatives were enslaved in the United States even though we had a Constitution that said all were -- that believed in the dignity, or at least proclaimed to believe in the dignity of all. The Articles of Confederation wasn't exactly a real smooth start for our government to begin. And what you're watching on your TV screens is a new democracy emerging."

Because unfortunately, the power-hungry machinery behind him is in complete, lockstep, thuggish control and knows exactly what the aims are: bankrupt most Americans and make the corporations, and the wealthy connected to them, rich and richer -- all the while deluding people with chimera issues like gay marriage one election and immigration another. It just astounds me that people in mainstream America hear this man's warblings and don't demand he be jettisoned from his office into a holding cell for psychopaths.

but like ginni said above, he isn't a diplomat at all! if he had 1/10 of Clinton's charm and skill the war may have been avoided. he is HELLBENT on death & destruction of "evil"... well ya know what Dubya, GOD discerns what happens to evil unless you're a judge, and I don't see the word "Honorable" in front of your name!

Still thirty plus percent of Americans approve of this madman. Shows how dangerous media concentration is.

If not for M$S propaganda, he would never have been "elected", much less "re-elected". Without black box voting and voter purges, he would never have won anything.

125. He is also projecting his mistakes:
"...Taking questions from members of the Orange County Business Council, Bush said the United States erred in attempting large reconstruction projects soon after the invasion was completed. This "didn't make any sense," he said, because they "became convenient targets for the enemy..."

The United States erred? Does he believe he is the United States?

135. Maximus Gassius
At last our Nero has a name. Maybe he has gasoline prices on his mind and the hip term was a slip. The height of his diplomacy in my book was his speech to the UN where he avoided talking about iraq and instead diverted the topic to the human slavery issue, slavishly reading from a prompter whereas other delegates were able to eloquently speak from notes or none.

He is such a liar it is impossible to believe he even believes the garbage he is dishing out, especially when he knows more than he is ever willing to tell, but yet slips up and begins to admit his lies and contradicts himself.

The poet Charles Baudelaire sardonically "reserved the right to contradict himself" but that came from being a conscious wit not a subconscious nitwit.

I was thinking that he said people desire freedom, yeah among the things they want to free of,(according to the grand Idiot), is freedom from arms, legs, eyes, breathing and leave us not forget, that pesky heartbeat. :sarcasm:

I tithe regularly and attend services when ever I am not working. The topic of Bush and his 'religion' comes up frequently. Most of us have never bought his spiritually (you can tell them by their actions), BUT, some of us now have a better understanding as to how the antichrist could fool so many people for so long. At least that the thoughts in our adult Sunday school class.

Free to speak Truth to the Chinese Power.
Free to live in their native land without American invaders.
Free to.....the list is infinite.

he speaks without 5 people writing up the note/speech. The trick only works with a very narrow proportion of his true idiotic self. Just enough to give the fabrication an appearance of spontaneity. This man would never have been elected to any position, if he had written himself a mere third of his statements.

157. I am reminded of a scene from the Fahrenheit 9/11 docudrama
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 03:04 PM by Jose Diablo
The scene is of junior as he is preening before he announced the 'shock and awe' bombardment of Iraq in a broadcast to America.

He is smiling, happy, making faces into the camera, acting like a schoolboy playing with his 'tin soldiers'. Very far from being somber and burdened with the task ahead. He was unencumbered by any thoughts about the magnitude of what he was doing. To that schoolboy war was a big game, for he has never had to face-up for any responsibility. His father got him a cushy job with the Texas Air National Guard, junior couldn't even finish this cushy assignment given to him to keep him from seeing first had what war is all about. His entire life is a failure.

He is still a little boy as now he is saying he didn't want war? I would suggest a showing of his actions in front of the camera, but before going 'on the air' and matching this visual with what he said in the article in the OP. And today, his only worry is that he has been found-out and politically he is done, as are his enablers. Seeking an escape from responsibility for what he has done.

He and this whole bunch belong in the Hague answering for their war crimes. For once in his worthless life he should be made to accept responsibility for his actions. We owe this to him in that maybe a few minutes before his end, he can be made to look into himself, before he faces the abyss.

162. "diplomatically to the max". . . .the falsity of the representation stands
for itself. The other quote that got me was. "And I know that democracies do not war with each other." Democracies fight each other. The Germans elected the Nazis to power and we ended up fighting them. The Greek City States (most of them democracies) beat the shit out of each other. Rome and Carthage both had elected senates and they beat the shit out of each other. England (representative parliamentary government) and America (republic) fought in 1812 (and before in 1776 when US was a loose representative confederation). France (republic) and Britain (representative parliamentary government) fought before Napoleon became emperor. Turkey and Greece fought over Cyprus (both have representative forms of gov). Serbia fought Croatia and Bosnia and everyone had a representative form of government. Israel (a democracy) invaded Lebanon (a country with a representative government at the time). I am sure I have missed many. The point is if Bush meant that the G7 nations post WWII have not fought each other then he should have said it. He is a sloppy imprecise idiot.

If Bush TRULY believes his statement, then wouldn't God be telling him to get the #$*% out of the middle east or otherwise? Hmmmmmm otherwise! ! ! ! I mean get real - God tells me "bad idea", oh screw you God, I own you, oh.....wait....he does....doesn't he?:)
