Blast Hits Egypt (Peacekeeping) Base

A suicide bomber has hit outside a Sinai Peninsula base which houses a multinational peacekeeping force.

Egyptian security officials said two soldiers from New Zealand and Norway were injured in the blast.

Two Egyptian police officers were also hurt.

There are reports a second suicide bomber has struck in the region's north.

4. Suicide bombers attack multinational peacekeepers base in Sinai

A short time later, a separate blast hit a police checkpoint in the Nile Delta in the north of the country and a gun battle subsequently broke out. It was not immediately known if there were casualties in that incident.

Security officials said the attackers died in the north Sinai attack, and there were conflicting reports about wounded.

Egypt's official news agency confirmed the attack on the peacekeepers was a suicide bombing, and an Interior Ministry statement said the only casualties were the bombers."
