Bush to approve Dubai's takeover of nine military plants
Not yet posted to the NYT website:

New York Times

WASHINGTON — President Bush is expected on Friday to announce his approval of a deal under which a Dubai-owned company would take control of nine plants in the United States that manufacture parts for American military vehicles and aircraft, say two administration officials familiar with the terms of the deal.

The officials, who were granted anonymity so they could speak freely about something the president had not yet announced, said that the final details had not yet been set and that Bush might put conditions on the transaction to keep military technology in the United States.

But his action is almost certain to attract scrutiny in Congress, because of the political furor that erupted over the administration’s approval of a deal earlier this spring that would have given another Dubai-owned company, Dubai Ports World, leases to operate several American port terminals through its acquisition of a British company, the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co.

< snip >

Because the plants make turbine blades for tanks and aircraft, the deal was reviewed by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, which sent it on to Bush himself for a decision, a step used only when the potential security risks or political considerations are particularly acute.

Dubaian workers to bolster the workforce:eyes:

One question I have is... Why is Dubai buying all our stuff, and why are we so eager to sell it :( :pout:

39. making us further dependent on people who dont give a damn...
about our Constitution or our sovereignty..or our security...these 'set ups' will make sure THE WORLD is in constant chao$ AND sacrifice our tax dollars for profit margins abroad.

EVERY company in the military industrial complex MUST be subject to audit from now on....and that can only be available and controllable on our own truf with our own laws.

We CANNOT approve 'profit margin' wars anymore. It isn't humane and it isn't fiscally responsible.

56. You are exactly right.
Despite the glee that many feel for the fall of the Bush corporate cabal, the fact is they have been extremely successful.

They know they cannot fool the people indefinitely, and they steal as much as they can, as fast as they can, when they seize the reins of power. This will have been a good eight years for the traitorous thieves. :mad:

They know it may be another generation before they will have this kind of power again, so they are now in overdrive mode.

I simply hope that they have destroyed the republican party for the rest of my lifetime.

Remember what Michael Moore said in Fahrenheit 9/11:

Okay, let's say one group of people, like the American people pay you $400,000 a year to be president of the United States.

But then another group of people (Poppy's Saudi friends) invest in you, your friends and their related businesses, $ 1.4 billion over a number of years.

Who are you gonna like? Who's your daddy?

now for my shower:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1623127/posts

We're selling our soul to the devil, IMHO.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We need to roust up the ports coalition to press the White House on this one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Then we have a $20 million grant to Harvard University by Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal for the establishment of an Islamic Studies program. Harvard can be bought.

Then we have the purchase of 230 Park Avenue last fall by Dubai's crown prince Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. This is the building near New York's Grand Central Station.

The major customers of Doncasters, a UK-based manufacturer of parts for military aircraft, tanks, and petrochemical markets with plants throughout the US and Europe, is Boeing, Honeywell, Siemens, and General Electric.

As I say, we are selling our souls, with the military support business leading the way.

Thank you, President Bush, for buying into the globalist jihad by stealth attitude that is so politically correct today. I'm sure you are smart, and all, but why am I feeling like the rug has just been pulled out from under me?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I know the place. Teh Helmsley Building, right? The one you see if you come out of Grnad Central via the foremr Pan Am building (now the Met Life building.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Time for the xenophobes to, once again, kick an Arab country in the teeth that's working closely with us in the War on Terror.
BTW, has any American company stepped up and bought the contracts to the American port terminals from DPW?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I say, we are selling our souls,
Who's "we"?
Doncasters is a British company. We have no say in who Doncasters decides to sell to. This one is a bit more complicated, since some very large American companies are customers of Doncasters, and they're not going to switch vendors for some of these critical parts.
That's all there was on Freak for now.
69. you know, the word that pops into my head
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 06:51 PM by Oak2004
about our illustrious leader who has so decisively failed to defend our borders, has all but turned us into a vassal state of the Chinese, has destabilized a strategically important region of the world, and is trying desperately to sell our national security infrastructure to the people who financed the breach of our borders?
The word is "traitor".
I'm an old liberal Republican (yep, we used to exist, once upon a time ago). I've never been terribly worried about national security issues before, because most of my life the US has been secure. We had natural resources, a production capacity able to overwhelm any opponent, technological innovation, and a superbly trained military. The supposed threat to the US from Communism looked to me like a mix of exaggeration and dark fantasy.
But this current Administration has managed to convert the dark fantasies of the paranoids into actual reality. We are in an increasingly desperate security situation, and the mole, the traitor who has sold us out, is sitting in the White House, telling us that only he can keep us safe.
Bush approves Dubai buying defense supplier
Sat Apr 29, 2006 08:19 AM ET
By Caren Bohan and Susan Cornwell
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush approved on Friday a Dubai-owned company's $1.24 billion takeover of Doncasters, a British engineering company with U.S. plants that supply the Pentagon.
Hoping to avert the sort of controversy that erupted over another Dubai state-owned company's plan to acquire operations at U.S. ports, Bush signed off on the deal after getting company assurances that the military supply chain would not be broken, the White House said.
Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer of New York, a leading opponent of the failed deal that would have given Dubai Ports World control of major U.S. port operations, said he would not oppose the purchase of Doncasters by Dubai International Capital. But another lawmaker, Democratic Rep. John Barrow of Georgia, said he wanted more details.
"Congressional oversight means accountability and accountability will help make sure that we don't sell off a piece of our military industrial complex today that we wish we had back tomorrow," Barrow said in a statement.
