Chevron First-Quarter Profit Rises as Energy Prices Increase

April 28 (Bloomberg) -- Chevron Corp., the second-largest U.S. oil company, said first-quarter profit rose to $4 billion from $2.68 billion as energy prices soared.

Per-share profit climbed to $1.80 from $1.28 a year earlier, the San Ramon, California-based company said today in a statement. The company was expected to earn $1.78 a share, the average estimate from 20 analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial. Thomson has declined to give the parameters of its estimates.

Makes sense. Gas is up about 50% over last year.
