Multiple Suicide Attempts by Guantanamo Detainee

The US Guantanamo Bay prison camp in Cuba is again on the agenda for human rights violations after holding terror suspects for years without trial.

The Independent daily in Britain reports Jumah al-Dossari, a Guantanamo detainee for over four years, has attempted to kill himself a dozen times to escape the torture and isolation he has experienced in prison.

The paper reads he tried to take his life during a visit by his lawyer on one occasion, and attempted suicide nearly a dozen times in his cell by hanging or slashing his wrists.

Another British daily, The Guardian reads Mr Dossari wrote a 20-page document to his lawyer detailing the conditions leading him to suicide, as the newspaper exposed his alleged continuous beating and isolation under intense psychological abuse.
