Auto sales boom drives fuel demand in Asia

NEW DELHI, India -- Now is a good time to be selling cars in India. Sachin Kapoor, who sells General Motors cars at T & T Motors in New Delhi, says he can barely keep up with customers taking advantage of cheap bank loans to buy their first car or trade up to a newer model.

"Even middle and lower middle-class families are buying cars," he said. "As the Indian economy continues to grow, the demand for cars will only go up and up."

It's similar in China, where double-digit economic growth has lifted millions out of poverty.

But the skyrocketing number of new vehicles means more air pollution, traffic jams and a big spike in oil consumption. That has authorities searching for cheaper and cleaner alternatives.

1. And hence the real reason for invading Iraq..........
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 12:24 AM by A HERETIC I AM
I've said it before and i'll say it again.

China and India are the REAL reason we are in Iraq. Who controls the 2nd largest known reserves in the world and is then able to profit from that oil being brought to market is the ONLY REASON we are there.

2 billion folks who were previously living in economies that had little or no middle class now have expanding ones.

It isnt rocket science. It is a long term, generational perspective on a grab for natural resources. \

Same as any other war thruout history.
