Missile attack cancels lawmakers' Baghdad trip
Missile attack cancels lawmakers' Baghdad trip
By M.E. SPRENGELMEYER
November 17, 2003

Security concerns forced a congressional delegation to scrap a planned flight into Baghdad on Monday after an earlier flight into the Iraqi capital was targeted by surface-to-air missiles, a Colorado congressman said.

An eight-member delegation was supposed to wrap up its three-day trip to the Middle East on Monday by flying from Kuwait to Baghdad to meet with a U.S. military commander and then visit local schools, said Republican Rep. Bob Beauprez.

When members awoke at a Kuwait City hotel Monday, they were informed that the trip had been canceled because of an incident about six hours earlier, when two surface-to-air missiles were fired at a C-130 transport plane on its approach to Baghdad, Beauprez said. (snip)

(snip) Instead of the Baghdad trip, the group remained in Kuwait and toured the command center of the Combined Forces Land Component Command at Camp Doha before beginning its return trip to the United States Monday night. (snip)

(snip) Others on the fact-finding mission included Reps. Robert Aderholt, R-Ala.; Ginny Brown-Waite, R-Fla.; Steny Hoyer, D-Md.; David Hobson, R-Ohio; Michael Oxley, R-Ohio; John Tanner, D-Tenn.; Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas; a congressional staff member and a military liaison. (snip/)

When members awoke at a Kuwait City hotel Monday, they were informed that the trip had been canceled because of an incident about six hours earlier, when two surface-to-air missiles were fired at a C-130 transport plane on its approach to Baghdad, Beauprez said.

The missiles apparently missed their target, but not before the C-130 was forced to take evasive action, Beauprez said.

Wow. And this is not the first time Iraqis have fired SAMs at a C-130, there was a similar incident last summer.

6. A Lot of good things are happening in IRAQ--- Gen Meyers
Apparently , however, this isn't one of them (Good Happenings)

I love it when these PORKERS who swill at the Public Trough, go into the War Zone for a little "Photo OP".

Then then come back and put their mugs on TV.

My local Faux channel had my Rethugican Congress cretin on the tube cheerleading a couple of weeks ago.
This prick was born to a rich family and is following in the footsteps by propping up the Chimpanzee.

I almost died laughing when he said how safe IRAQ is becoming, wearing a flak jacket surrounded by gun toating civilians (They looked like Woodstock nation). They were some kind of body guard detachment. They looked vrery, very scruffy and very tense.

WHAT A LIAR. Faux then did a visit with 3 men on the street whose combined IQ was 62 and 1/2 and all agreed the congess cretin was doing a fine job, he was very brave and Iraq was getting better.

Goebbels would have been proud.

9. They won't mention the missile in the news, I bet.
They'll just blame it on bad weather at O'Hare.
