EU widens trade sanctions against U.S.

ASSOCIATED PRESS

BRUSSELS, Belgium — The European Union imposed $9.1 million (figures U.S.) in additional retaliatory sanctions against the United States on Monday in response to antidumping measures meant to protect U.S. companies. The World Trade Organization had declared the U.S. rules illegal.

EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson's office said the new measures were justified because U.S. government payments to American companies are scheduled to continue for two more years despite the disputed trade law being repealed in February.

The new $9.1 million in EU sanctions, brings the total amount of penalties levied against the U.S. in response to the disputed trade law to $36.9 million, the European Commission said in a statement.

/snip/

The Geneva-based WTO ruled the U.S. legislation illegal in 2002 and gave the United States until the end of 2003 to conform. When it didn't, seven countries and the EU were given the option in 2004 to impose sanctions.

3. No Problem, Bush will just pay it with more borrowed money...
thereby adding it to the debt. He thinks he's found the eternally full cup of money... take some out and it refills like magic--no matter how much you take out (at least that's how it's worked for the last couple of trillion..., surely it will never end, it can't dry up--at least not till there's a Democrat in the White House, right?).

Anybody got some magic beans? Seems like a real economic opportunity if you can get it to see this President! No doubt he'd be delighted to invest in a gigantic bean stalk... and let the Marines handle any unpleasant, green giants!

4. The Night of the Long Knives...
The US is starting to get cut off. And I mean it. This is serious. Just 2 days ago, 3 countries in South America have decided to boycott US-made products.

Not just sanctions. They're cutting us off.

Damn that George Bush. We're going to be isolated the way they're going.

6. $9.1 million?
Is this a joke? I know people, individuals, who made that kind of money in real estate in few months. I mean, is it $9.1 mil per day?
