Iraq: Japan Will Pull Out When U.K., Australia Do
May 02, 2006 02 21 GMT

Japanese troops will stay in Iraq as long as British and Australian troops are deployed there, Kyodo news agency reported May 2. Japanese Defense Agency Director Gen. Fukushiro Nukaga officially told the U.S. government May 1 that Japan will withdraw its 600-strong force based at Samawa in southern Iraq when British and Australian troops are pulled out. Japan's troops in Iraq are constrained by Tokyo's pacifist constitution and rely on British and Australian troops for secuirty.

2. No longer dependent on the US. It's the UK & Australia now is it?
Japan just trying to move down the list and push others in front of them in the line of fire.

Well, Japan does know how to get out from under disasters.

3. Several Japanese net acquaintances I chatted with
are quite proud of their servicemen serving in Iraq. "Bringing civilization to the savages", as one put it. Imperialism in Japan is still alive and kicking apparently.

"Japan's troops in Iraq are constrained by Tokyo's pacifist constitution". Constrained is an excellent word to describe it.
