Suicide bomber attacks Iraqi governor, 3 dead

RAMADI, Iraq, May 2 (Reuters) - A suicide car bomber attacked the motorcade of the governor of the restive Iraqi province of Anbar on Tuesday, killing three bodyguards, hospital sources and local residents in the regional capital Ramadi said.

Governor Maamoun Sami Rasheed was wounded and was being treated at a U.S. medical facility, an aide said after the attack in the centre of the city, a stronghold of Sunni Arab rebellion 110 km (70 miles) west of Baghdad.

Local people who said they had seen the attack, close to the main court building, said a car drove at three civilian cars being escorted by U.S. Humvee patrol vehicles and exploded, damaging some of the limousines.

The U.S. military made no immediate comment.

1. Freedom's on the march in Iraq:
The freedom to car bomb your political opponents. :sarcasm:

2. This time the wheels literally came off...
...the center cannot hold in Iraq.

The Second Coming -- W. B. Yeats

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all convictions, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

4. "A predecessor of Rasheed was kidnapped and killed last year.
Two others resigned, one after his sons were kidnapped. Al Qaeda Islamists and hardline followers of Saddam Hussein vow to kill Sunni Arabs who join the U.S.-sponsored political process."
