Democrats claim Bush favours white males for political appointments

Washington - President George W. Bush has added hundreds of new political appointees to the federal payroll, but has reduced the percentage of minorities and women named to the jobs, a report released by opposition Democrats Tuesday showed.

Bush, who ran for office as an opponent of 'big government,' has added 300 new political appointees to the payrolls in his first five years in the White House.

But only 13 per cent of them are members of a racial minority, a 50 per cent drop from the makeup of political appointees during the Bill Clinton administration, according to the report, which was made public by Democrats in the US House of Representatives.

'No one expected a Republican administration to have as many African American political appointees as the Clinton administration, but a cascade of blacks by almost 70 per cent, despite the increase in political appointed jobs, amounts to the politics of exclusion,' said Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton.

But when you look at the other administrative posts, it's all white males.

4. actually, he favors minorities
because it makes for better p.r.
the problem is that it's so damn hard to find acceptable minorities who are willing to sell their souls to the devil.

6. I'm sure that's true, but look what happens when he appoints
a member of a minority group -- Colon and Condi.

The larger issue here -- the one to fight first -- is the all-corrupt, all-lying, all-stealing, all-treasonous nature of every single person associated with Bush.

The fact that too many of these crooks are white men is secondary. Once we've got a reasonably honest government back, then yes, it should reflect the diversity of the nation.

14. WP: Bush's Appointees Not As Diverse as Clinton's
Bush's Appointees Not As Diverse as Clinton's

By Christopher Lee
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, May 8, 2006; Page A17

President Bush's crop of political appointees includes fewer women and minorities than did President Bill Clinton's at comparable points in their presidencies, according to a new report by House Democrats.

Women made up about 37 percent of the 2,786 political appointees in the Bush administration in 2005, compared with about 47 percent in the Clinton administration in 1997, according to the report and supplemental data released last week by the Democratic staff of the House Government Reform Committee. Similarly, about 13 percent of Bush administration appointees last year were racial minorities, compared with 24 percent in the fifth year of Clinton's presidency, the report found.

The 13-page report, compiled using data from the Office of Personnel Management, says the number of women and minority appointees increased during the first five years after Clinton took office and has declined during Bush's tenure.

What the report does not mention, however, is that Bush has established a record of diversity in his Cabinet. Bush's Cabinet, which includes the vice president and the heads of 15 executive departments, currently has two Hispanics, two African Americans and two Asian Americans. Three departments -- State, Education and Labor -- are headed by women, and a fourth, Interior, has an acting secretary who is a woman.
