Reid Mulls Filibuster of Judicial Nominees
Reid Mulls Filibuster of Judicial Nominees

Wednesday May 3, 2006 12:31 AM

By LAURIE KELLMAN

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate's top Democrat on Tuesday said he is considering
a filibuster of two of President Bush's judicial nominees, saying one may have
been involved in the administration's policy on torture and the other ruled
in a case in which he had a clear conflict of interest.

"The answer is yes, a possible filibuster, of course," Reid told reporters in answer
to a question about the nomination of White House aide Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S.
Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

The other nominee is federal judge Terrence Boyle, who Bush wants to send to the 4th
U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Va.

Kavanaugh's negatives, Reid added, "pale in comparison to Boyle." Reid said he had read
in an online article that Boyle had bought stock in General Electric midway through
presiding over a pension lawsuit against the company. Then Boyle ruled against the
plaintiff's claims of long-term and pension disability benefits.

1. Huh.
Two SCOTUS picks too late.

But, the powder is still good and dry, the fight is there for the picking, blah blah blah...

2. Mulling and doing are two different things.

I would guess that mulling is the best way to keep your powder dry.

13. The gang of 14 have already announced that they will meet on this
If these 7 Dem traitors extend their fear of a end the 60 vote filibuster below USSC judges, they should be dropped from the party and considered independent and not to be funded by Dems.

There must be a bright line that you do not cross on some issues, otherwise it is pointless being a Democrat.

4. You must want Bush/media to say mean things about Harry!
It hurts his feelings when Bush/meida says all those mean things- why would we want to subject him to such a thing?

Meanwhile, the speeding train wreck that is this REPUKE governmnet just keeps speeding by unchecked - wreaking havoc, destruction, misery and carnage far and wide.

But go ahead - keep that powder dry and keep on mullin'!

Great idea, Reid! :sarcasm:

And to think he's my senator - ugh!

"but he's a democrat, got to support a democrat" - tell it to me a few more times, will ya?!

8. Does anybody here know anything about these picks?
Or is the fact that they're being nominated by Bush cause enough for a filibuster?

9. The two things Reid said about them is good enough for me.
Those are definitely major problems for supposedly impartial judges. Both sound very corruption prone (in fact the both already engaged in corruption).

15. A little more than mull, if you please
Kavanaugh, according to a post I read earlier today, was one of Ken Starr's little elves, and has been instrumental in trying to implement and provide a legal foundation for some of the loonier proposals out of this corrupt White House.

Much of this information has come to light since Kavanaugh was first nominated for the DC Court of Appeals, yet self-annointed champion of freedom Arlen Specter doesn't want to hold another hearing on Kavanaugh, because Brett might not withstand any further scrutiny. Better to just rubber-stamp him to a lifetime appointment, eh Arlen?

20. Oh. Did someone finally tell him what filibuster means?
Too late jackass. Where was this "mulling" over when we really needed it? Yep, two Supreme Court Justices ago was when you needed to do more than just mull it over asshole.

The sooner Dean wrestles control away from the likes of Reid, the better off this party will be.

21. Don't strain yourself Harry, you dipshit. Talk about closing the...
barn door after the horses escaped! Although I'll take anything these spineless Dems can muster the courage to do (their job), it is, in this case, too little, too late.

When the chips are down, Reid folds. Almost every time.

How's that Phase II hearing coming along, Harry?

23. Yeah right, Harry......
you let Scalito, Roberts and Gonzo pass, the REAL damage has already been done. Now you're "mulling" a filibuster on some circuit court judges? :eyes: I give you a "Scalia back of my hand", Harry. You RAN from the REAL fight. "Mulling" a filibuster on these guys isn't going to make up for your earlier failure of leadership.

25. I think time would be better spent on how to impeach the RW judges now!
If a few of them are found to have been covering up for the president in some of their rulings of not hearing of appeals for state secrets dismissed cases (aka Sibel Edmonds, Jeffry Sterling, etc.), then perhaps we have a better way of rectifying this packing of the court. Of course we have to wait until after the impeachment of the president and VP happens first and the Dems take over the House. Oh wait! John Roberts is now the presiding judge over the impeachment trial. Might just make it harder to get an impeachment through too! Damn!
