Valerie Plame Seeks Book Deal

Valerie Plame Wilson, the Central Intelligence Agency covert officer whose name was publicly disclosed three years ago, is shopping a book proposal among a small group of publishers, according to two people familiar with the project.

Both people were granted anonymity because their publishing companies have signed nondisclosure agreements about the content of the proposal.

The leak of Ms. Wilson's name, which first appeared in a column by Robert D. Novak, the syndicated columnist, produced a full-scale Washington scandal. Investigations are continuing into the identity of the person who told Mr. Novak, and possibly others in the media, about Ms. Wilson.

Joseph C. Wilson IV, Ms. Wilson's husband and a former diplomat who was a vocal critic of the Bush administration's handling of prewar intelligence in advance of the invasion of Iraq, called the leak a smear campaign by the White House against the couple in retaliation for Mr. Wilson's criticisms. Mr. Wilson, who had gone to Africa to investigate whether Saddam Hussein's regime had attempted to buy uranium, found no evidence that it had.

6. I'd be surprised if she filed a lawsuit.
I don't see how she could get the evidence before the court.

The government's dropped more than one criminal case because a judge wouldn't allow classified evidence to remain secret; I'm skeptical that a judge allow Plame to use classified evidence, and it's unclear that sufficient evidence will be declassified for her to prove her point against individuals. The standards of proof in court are at least slightly higher than that required for newspapers and blogs.

2. What!
Why would she shop a book deal before she sues however many of these people as she can for making it impossible for her to work until her legitimate retirement date? Then write the book!
