CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS (AP) -- The Blade is one of two newspapers recognized as finalists for the 2006 Taylor Family Award for Fairness in Newspapers -- an honor earned by its "State of Turmoil" series about an investment scandal that's also known as "Coingate."

2. The BWC was about to invest another 25 million with Noe, when

the Blade broke the story originally. Not only has it been great reporting - it has done the taxpayers and voters a service by preventing more losses and forcing oversight and the discovery of even more huge losses at the BWC (and demonstrating how insidious the pay-to-play culture in Columbus had become.

As a guy who was born and raised in Toledo, I have to admit to being surprised that the Blade has risen to such a level in recent years. I don't live there anymore, but it makes me proud to see it happen.
