An Ugly Turn in the Race to Oppose Mrs. Clinton
We can't let Katherine Harris get all the good publicity, so lets pay another visit to New York and see how the other Katherine (K.T. McFarland) is doing in her Senate race.

The pitched battle to be the Republican challenger to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has turned nastier, with the campaign manager for Kathleen Troia McFarland, who is struggling to get on the primary ballot, accusing her opponent, John Spencer, of bigamy.

In an NY1 News interview on Tuesday, Edward J. Rollins, a top aide to Ms. McFarland, spoke of Mr. Spencer's personal history and his record as the mayor of Yonkers, dredging up marital infidelity and accusing him of nepotism.

Mr. Spencer has never denied that while he was mayor, he had a long affair with his chief of staff while he was married, and had two children with her before they were married.

"He runs around saying, 'I'm a good Catholic, I'm this, I'm that," Mr. Rollins said, adding that to "a lot of Catholics in this state, that's bigamy." Mr. Spencer was not married to both women at the same time.

I'm not sure I but her argument; seems to me Spencer could point to taking care of the new kiddies as a example of his strong support for family values...

2. Oh crap, it is not bigamy. Catholics don't call having an
affair bigamy. A lot of them are nuts, (and don't flame, I was raised Catholic) but they do understand English.

19. An "affair"?
I know of several families where there WERE virtual second
wives (sometimes 2nd FAMILIES). Everyone KNOWS, no one
TALKS about it.

Divorce would be SINFUL, don't you know......

13. Hello, lawsuit for slander!
If you're going to accuse someone of bigamy, you'd best have the two marital licenses to back it up.

15. Bigamy? No, it's infidelity.
Unless the marriage was annulled by the Church, they still see him as being married to his first wife. Unless he was married to his second wife in the Church, it's not bigamy because his second marriage isn't valid according to Catholic rules. Every time he sleeps with his second "wife", he's cheating on his first wife.

Since the Catholic Church doesn't recognize the validity of the civil marriage (or the civil divorce), there's nothing bigamous.
