Bush calls U.S. a nation of prayer
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - President Bush said Thursday that America's history is inexorably tied to prayer.

"America is a nation of prayer. It's impossible to tell the story of our nation without telling the story of people who pray," Bush said during a White House celebration of the National Day of Prayer. "At decisive moments in our history and in quiet times around family tables, we are a people humbled and strengthened and blessed by prayer."

...

"In my travels across the great land, a comment that I hear often from our fellow citizens is, `Mr. President, I pray for you and your family.' It's amazing how many times a total stranger walks up and says that to me," Bush said. "You'd think they'd say, `How about the bridge?' Or, `How about filling the potholes?' No, they say, `I've come to tell you I pray for you, Mr. President'."

Bush was careful to also honor those who choose not to pray, or join any religion.

"We are a people united by our love for freedom, even when we differ in our personal beliefs," the president said. "In America, we are free to profess any faith we choose, or no faith at all."

in your answer? We are a nation of prayer. We are praying, for Bush to step down or be impeached. ;) My only caveat against impeachment is that we would get Cheney as the booby prize. Evil incarnate.

7. A nation of prayer does not wage war.
We bomb; we invade; we exploit. If not directly, then we do it indirectly through dictators and surrogates. Then we move on and do it again to another weak, poor country. If that's the definition of a nation of prayer, I'd hate to see what a nation does when it doesn't even bother praying at all.

Bush speaks blasphemy.

I know all humans are your children. But what happened to GW? Was he dropped on his head as a child or did some wires just get crossed somewhere when he was a baby? I would never pray any harm on anyone. I just pray that GW goes far FAR away very soon. Mars would be nice. Heck, even Iceland would be OK for me.

Oh, and Jesus, please take Richard Cheney with Bush. And don't give him any guns or quail to play with either.

Your faithful servant...Maseman. (sign of the cross.)

75. "all humans are your children." Not according to what Jesus said.
John 8:42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. 43Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? 47He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."

14. Oh, yes they do
"O Lord our Father, our young patriots, idols of our hearts, go forth to battle – be Thou near them! With them – in spirit – we also go forth from the sweet peace of our beloved firesides to smite the foe. O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with hurricanes of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with their little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it – for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen."

and no other country? Yup, we're the chosen people. I believe the bible was written here by early Americans, and I think Bethlehem is a little town in Pennsylvania. :sarcasm:

btw - Our beloved leader talks about how people come up to him all the time and say that they pray for him. Gee, this wouldn't be due to the fact that anybody who gets within' earshot of the guy has been highly screened, would it? Mr. President, if I had a chance to come up to you and tell you something, you can bet your sweet ass your ears would be burning.

15. A recent study indicated that prayer made little difference when
applied to relatives for healing from medical conditions, as compared to no prayers for a controlled group. It could not be measured, because apparently it has no effect.

Speaking of potholes, I suppose it would be similar to the effect of prayer on the pothole on the street in front of your house.

Please, I pray to you, President Pothole, send some one to fill the pothole on my street.

(Alfonse D'Amato was known as Senator Pothole for making sure the potholes were filled in his neighborhood.)

He doesn't mind being included in their prayers, since he thinks he's God.

102. Gogled: Bush Antichrist and about 1,750,000 hits popped up...
This ~snip~ in the fourth link "tells it" like it is:

"This administration is a culture of death, and so is the religious right," says Lang. In his Open Letter to George Bush, published in Real Change, Lang thunders, "You claim Christ but act like Caesar. There is blood all over your hands with the promise of even more blood to come. You sit atop the nations like the Biblical Whore of Babylon openly fornicating with the military men of might." His sermon "George Bush and the Rise of Christian Fascism" (posted like Luther's theses on the church Web site, www.tumseattle.org) rails that "the power and seduction of this administration emerges from its diabolical manipulation of Christian rhetoric . . . the mirror opposite of what Jesus embodied. It is, indeed, the materialization of the spirit of Antichrist: a perversion of Christian faith and practice."

http://www.seattleweekly.com/news/0449/041208_news_antichrist.php

And the first link is... (see THE pic with THE "$hadow$...")
http://www.bushisantichrist.com

Iraqis pray the fa$ci$t PNACer$ will all be imprisoned as soon as possible and that their torturers and murderers will go away (or to hell) too.

like your crazy Uncle Mumbles who babbles on in cliches. Oh, and this isn't a knock on cliches or prayer; it is just that I am concerned when we have a president who thinks reality is a Norman Rockwell painting from 1956.

Oh, and that "stranger" who sort of wanders up to the President and says "Mr. President, I pray for you and your family." First, I've always wondered how said stranger got past the Secret Service. Second, what that citizen never quite got to say was "I pray for you because you have so fucked up the country and the rest of the world that there is no place in hell deep enough for you. So I pray that you get impeached as soon as possible, and I pray that Jenna and not-Jenna can live down the shame.

73. Did Stephen Colbert write his lines?
This really cracks me up.

"It's amazing how many times a total stranger walks up and says that to me," Bush said. "You'd think they'd say, `How about the bridge?' Or, `How about filling the potholes?' No, they say, `I've come to tell you I pray for you, Mr. President'."

Whenever a "Christian" prays for me, they are not doing out out of kindness, they are doing it to illustrate that I'm so terrible even their prayers can't help me.

Three of my self-righteous, "born-again" brothers they included in a grace over the family Christmas dinner a request that God find a way to save my soul. I asked them how I could be saved, and they explained about getting converted, and in answer to further questions agreed that that meant you were absolutely bound for heaven after that, no matter what you might do in the meantime. It absolutely ruined their Christmas when I told them in that case they had nothing to worry about, I was "saved" at a revivalist meeting when I was 11 years old.

The poor blokes blanched could hardly swallow a mouthful after that. The idea of the little sister they had sexually abused and labeled a liar, a slut and a harlot to stop anyone listening to her, and who's attempted murder they had happily gone along with, being in heaven with them was more than they could bear.

We pray the monarch won't start another war. We pray our families won't get sick because we have no health insurance. We pray the gasoline for the car lasts the entire week. We pray for warm winters so we don't freeze to death. We pray there's a sane (and brave) person somewhere in the administration who will not allow a nuke to be dropped. We pray another natural distaster doesn't hit our country and we pray we never again see our fellow citizens stranded on roof tops or abandoned in sports arenas. We pray the unchecked containers arriving in our ports do not contain radioactive hazards or deadly diseases and we pray there are no bombs in the bellies of our planes. We pray for jobs, we pray for education, we pray for clean air and water. Most of all, we pray for November.

84. Possibly the funniest thing Bush has ever said
"In my travels across the great land, a comment that I hear often from our fellow citizens is, `Mr. President, I pray for you and your family.' It's amazing how many times a total stranger walks up and says that to me," Bush said. "You'd think they'd say, `How about the bridge?' Or, `How about filling the potholes?' No, they say, `I've come to tell you I pray for you, Mr. President'."

Yeah, if I had a chance to meet the President, the FIRST thing I'd want to ask him about is the potholes! It's also funny how he says this as if total strangers just come up to him all the time when he's out for a stroll.

The quote also shows that no matter what the occasion, Bush finds a way to make it all about HIMSELF.

93. "go murder, pray and die"

CHRISTIANS AT WAR
By John < >Kendrick
(Tune: "Onward, Christian Soldiers")

Onward, Christian soldiers! Duty's way is plain:
Slay your Christian neighbors, or by them be slain.
Pulpiteers are spouting effervescent swill,
God above is calling you to rob and rape and kill,
All your acts are sanctified by the lamb on high;
If you love the Holy Ghost, go murder, pray and die.

Onward, Christian soldiers, rip and tear and smite!
Let the gentle Jesus, bless your dynamite.
Splinter skulls with shrapnel, fertilize the sod;
Folks who do not speak your tongue, deserve the curse of
God.
Smash the doors of every home, pretty maidens seize;
Use your might and sacred right to treat them as you
please.

Onward, Christian soldiers! Eat and drink your fill;
Rob with bloody fingers, Christ O. K.'s the bill.
Steal the farmer's savings, take their grain and meat;
Even though the children starve, the Saviour's bums must
eat.
Burn the peasant's cottages, orphans leave bereft;
In Jehovah's holy name, wreak ruin right and left.

Onward, Christian soldiers! Drench the land with gore;
Mercy is a weakness all the gods abhor.
Bayonet the babies, jab the mothers, too;
Hoist the cross of Calvary to hallow all you do.
File your bullets' noses flat, poison every well;
God decrees your enemies must all go plumb to hell.

Onward, Christian soldiers! Blighting all you meet,
Trampling human freedom under pious feet.
Praise the Lord whose dollar sign dupes his favored race!
Make the foreign trash respect your bullion brand of
grace.
Trust in mock salvation, serve as pirates' tools;
History will say of you: "That pack of G-- d--- fools."

111. Here is a good Prayer
ST Francis Prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O, Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

But that is a Prayer Bush the Satan would not know nothing about.

128. try your best to
pardon his horrible governing, as Christ pardons are mistakes.

Jesus knows if he is truly EVIL, and if he is, he'll pay. I like to think I know the answer, and I don't like what I think - it's horrible to imagine our President is an evil man... so disturbing, but easily plausible based on his 'governing' or lack there of.

I despise Bush so much, but I have to remember the very words you were so wise to point out!

120. It was his presidency
that made me finally admit to being Atheist. He rid me of those last (few - very few) remaining doubts. And talk about freedom. I've always felt so creepy around god people and in churches - I mean chills up the spine, horror movie creepy – and so very weirded out when it came time to "bow my head" at someone's dinner table. It just felt so wrong. I tried to believe in god. I really tried.

It's kind of ironic, all those years praying to my ceiling fan, never once getting an answer, not even to the smallest of prayers and then McDumbass shows me the light. I guess I should thank him but it would be lost on him.
