Washington: Don't distill ethanol at home
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=efe9318b9fc41192

The U.S. government is warning against motorists distilling ethanol fuel at home to cut their gas bill.

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau posted to its Web site a warning that special permits are needed by people planning to distill their own ethanol for use as a fuel.

In recent days, we have seen several news items on people distilling ethanol at home to supplement their gasoline needs, the notice said. Unfortunately, some of the reports do not inform the public that it is illegal to distill alcohol without first obtaining a federal permit through the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau.

You dirty little Ethanol distillers... Bush is gonna getcha!!! Hiccup!!!:toast:

garage refineries.

9. So who's complaining about citizens being scientifically illiterate?
Edited on Thu May-04-06 09:17 PM by SimpleTrend
Only approved, permitted scientists from accredited institutions may ever practice anything resembling science. Everyone else is a criminal.

Wanna take bets on Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau deciding to practice upstream distribution disruption, such as raising the price of sugar and reducing quantities allowed for purchase? Perhaps only 1 TBS of sugar allowed per citizen per day, and require merchants selling sugar to require a photo ID. Better find a contractor to develop a database of sugar buyers.

Better make growing corn illegal, government scientists declare only methanol is cost effective as a fuel!

Readers are advised of some sarcastic content above.

name and address if you bought more than 25# of sugar at a time!

12. its always about control; and the protection of corporate
revenue streams. The alternate energy proposals; hydrogen or nuclear, are corporate, and if the method can be implemented on an individual or cooperative effort it is either regulated as is ethanol or prohibited by code as are stand alone wood heat sources in many locals.

18. says-"must obtain an Alcohol Fuel Plant permit,"

It warned that distilling alcohol without a federal permit is a criminal offense.

People who intend to produce, process, store, use or distribute distilled spirits exclusively for fuel use must obtain an Alcohol Fuel Plant permit, TTB said.

and smoke out. That 50 gallon drum of molasses in my garage is for pancakes, not for distilling and other evil-doer activities. I love mountains of pancakes.

23. Damn. I was thinking of what I could do with all the excess figs on my
HUGE Kadota fig tree that I can't eat due to, well, the laxative effect. Normally they just drop on the lawn and ferment and then turn to vinegar, but if I picked them and let them ferment under controlled circumstances and then set up an ILLEGAL STILL I could have home-grown and home made fuel for my car. It's seriously tempting especially because I get noticeably better mileage in the warmer months when the gas stations are selling the summer blend (with ethanol added). I could add my own in the winter when my mileage normally goes to hell.

I guess that's a real crime.

26. The Corporatists don't like compitition.
The corporation's only function is to maximize shareholder profits, everything elese be damned. The market forces corporations to give a damn about the consumer, so they would rather do away with a free market and create a cartel in order to make a monopoly. Big Oil wants to be able to transition to alternative fuels without compitition.
