Elizabeth Dole Warns of Disaster (if Democrats gain control of Congress)
Edited on Thu May-04-06 11:15 PM by DeepModem Mom
NYT/AP: Dole Warns of Disaster
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: May 4, 2006

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The head of the Senate Republican committee paints a dire picture of Democratic congressional control, warning that the opposition party would ''put the war on terrorism on the back-burner'' and maybe even impeach President Bush.

In a fundraising appeal this week, Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C., asks for immediate financial help ''to prevent the most left-wing Democrat Party in history from seizing control of the United States Senate'' in the November elections....

***

''Senate Republicans are in panic mode, making accusations that are so hysterical they're actually making the case for electing more Democrats to the Senate,'' said Phil Singer, a spokesman for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

Senate Democrats have maintained a 2-to-1 advantage over Dole's campaign committee in money raised for the midterm contests. Senate Democrats have $32.1 million cash on hand and the National Republican Senatorial Committee has $16.5 million, according to the most recent filings.

In the fundraising letter, Dole rails against liberal Democrats in the Senate and warns that if they prevail, ''our worst fears'' will be realized. She argues that empowered Democrats would ''increase your taxes, call for endless investigations, congressional censure and maybe even impeachment of President Bush, put the war on terrorism on the back-burner'' and ''Take over the White House in 2008!''...

81. Yeah. Disaster... for the corrupt Republican machine
What Dole is saying in other words is that if Democrats take the House, the corrupt Republicans will have to EXPLAIN their actions and ACCOUNT for their evil deeds to the American people.

We can't have that! Not siree-bob!!!

I'll make a prediction, which I think it's a safe one: the 2006 mid-term elections will the the dirtiest, nastiest, most brutal campaign ever concocted by Karl Rove and the Republican machine. They will throw in every freakin' nasty trick they know, and then some. Remember the Swiftboat Veterans? That would be chopped liver compared to what Rove must be cooking.

Why?

Because this time their asses are on the line. Literally. And they know if they lose control of congress, a good chunk of the Republican leadership will end up in prison. Some may be even prosecuted for crimes against humanity. Heck, even Rove himself has a potential indictment for TREASON dangling like a Damoclean sword over his head. And this would land his lily-white ass in a federal institution for a long time.

This time is personal.

See all the hoopla about the anthem in Spanish, or the sudden scandal with immigration? It's part of it. Rove will use the racist and xenophobic card this time, just like he used the homophobic card in 2004. He will give the voters two options: "vote Republican, or the brown people will take over."

The Democratic leadership should be very aware of where this is going, and be ready to fight back, because this is how Rove will frame the 2006 elections. Forget Iraq, terrorism, or the criminal negligence of the Bush cabal: the most pressing issue for the security of the USA will suddenly become the starving Mexicans crossing the border looking for work.

The discourse is already been framed. Beware, people.

83. I agree, Julius.
They have brilliantly put the "immigration issue" out there as a wedge issue and if the Dems don't frame it right, it will play out in the election to the Repugs advantage.

My favorite recent Dole quote:

"If she knew that a statewide poll by SurveyUSA put Burns' approval rating at 38 percent, she didn't mention it. Instead, she talked about how the Democrats are pumping hundreds of thousands of dollars into Montana because of the inexpensive advertising there.

"It is just so offensive," Dole said repeatedly. "It is wrong.""

It's maybe something about her accent or the phoney smile but she has the magic touch. She has that cheap big-hair, pencil-behind-the-ear, gum-smacking style of a 1950s truckstop waitress like Laura Bush, but Laura doesn't turn my stomach the way Mrs. Dole does.

Why doesn't Elizabeth just ask the Chimp to arrest all of the Democratic candidates before the election and send them to Gitmo? It would be her style.

Edited on Fri May-05-06 12:54 AM by Syrinx
Yesterday we told you about Sen. Dole's GOP senate fundraising letter which begged for campaign money and suggested that allowing Democrats to launch investigations of President Bush would be even worse than letting them lose the War on Terror.

The AP wrote about Dole's fundraising appeal and the dire picture she painted of a Democratic senate. The piece quotes extensively from the pitch letter. But somehow the AP fails to mention this one most jarring, embarrassing and revealing passage.

In short, Dole wrote that the Republicans' political fortunes are more important than "the war on terror." Now, the AP is helping cover that bit up.

It is almost inconceivable to me that matronly women can be so cruel and vicious. But, then, I remember Messalina and Catherine de Medici (to name a couple).

As she enumerates the things that probably will happen when dems take over, I find myself saying, "Yes. Yes. Of course. It's long overdue."

This is certainly not the time nor the place to wish her to rot in hell. To do such would be beneath my dignity.

Like impeachment would be such a bad thing?
And instead of "raising" taxes, I look at more as rolling-back all those imbecilic tax cuts for the Rich that Il Douche gave to his buds.

61. Never get my Mom started on Liddy Dole
She's her Senator, and Mom calls Dole's office at least once a week.... not just complaining about stuff, but asking, "Where's Liddy?" Since Dole never comes to NC (hey -- she doesn't live there and hasn't in decades), is never seen in DC, and never, ever listens or answers her constituents.

And as if a bad thing were ignoring the war on terror (checked your fearless leader lately, M'am?) and the WORST thing would be impeaching Bush?

Twisted.

64. My God, Yes
The Democrats could be our worst nightmares. They might spend our country into bankruptcy, lie to get us into foreign wars, tear up the Constitution, and even threaten nuclear war.

Oh wait.

That's the Republican agenda.

66. And if we put a Democrat in the WH what happens?
"call for endless investigations, congressional censure and maybe even impeachment of President Bush", oops Clinton.

I will say we did this to Nixon because of his lying and cover ups that affected the nation. They did it to Clinton because his lying affected his wifes trust in him. If we do this to Bush it will be because his lying and cover ups that affected the nation. Republicans do it to be petty, it seems Dems have done it because of national interest that were at stake.

It seems that pettiness and BS is what is important to ED and not the best interest of the nation.

I have to ask, is she, ED, the reason that Bob Dole has ED?

68. Disaster COMPARED TO WHAT?
I don't know -- even her list of 'worst fears' is nothing compared to what this country has been through the last 5 years:

She argues that empowered Democrats would 'increase your taxes, call for endless investigations, congressional censure and maybe even impeachment of President Bush, put the war on terrorism on the back-burner'' and ''Take over the White House in 2008!'

Oh yeah, that's WAY worse than threatening to start WWIII, tripling the cost of oil, losing an entire American city, grinding down our military, usurping the Constitution, shooting a guy IN THE FACE.....

:eyes:

Someone owes me a new keyboard

What possible damage could the Democrats do that hasn't already been done? And then the most hilarious part is, "empowered Democrats would ''increase your taxes, call for endless investigations, congressional censure and maybe even impeachment of President Bush!"

Sounds like a Democratic campaign slogan to me! Let's go with it!

The last little jewel: "Democrats would put terrorism on the back burner" Uh, excuse me, but how long has it been that Osama bin Laden has been free? And who was it that tried to sell our ports to middle-easterners?

71. I wouldn't say we'd impeach the idiot in chief
Unless we could make sure that Dickhead and other members of this administration are impeached at the same time, or forced to resign. We certainly don't want any of them as head honcho, either. I'd rather keep the idiot there to continue mocking him until the 2008 presidential election, where we can keep an eye on him. If any of the others get the throne, we'll be in deeper shit than we are right now.

I think many pukes fail to see that keeping the idiot there is a self-defense against any of the others in this illegal regime, because there are certainly no angels in the mix, all the way to the bottom line.

Here is the order of succession:

The Vice President Richard Cheney
Speaker of the House John Dennis Hastert
President pro tempore of the Senate1 Ted Stevens
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
Secretary of the Treasury John Snow
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales
Secretary of the Interior (Vacant)
Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns
Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez2
Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao3
Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson
Secretary of Transportation Norman Yoshio Mineta
Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman
Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson
Secretary of Homeland Security4 Michael Chertoff

So, no; impeachment is probably not likely with a Democratic majority. However, we would likely be able to curtail any further destruction to our country, we might be able to force the president and Congress to end the occupation of Iraq, and of course, we could begin to straighten out the budget of the country to some extent, and raise taxes for the top 5% of taxpayers, close loopholes, and to punish companies who have prospered under Bush.

78. Democratic control presents a dire picture?
Edited on Fri May-05-06 09:01 AM by suegeo
As opposed to the rosy picture of republican (fascist) control of the past few years?

People of New York running for their lives through the streets...
Tall buildings crumbling into their own footprints...
Pentagon attacked, and attack was not thwarted by the military...
Wars without end and bodybags...
What happened to all the money...
Gas Prices...
Domestic spying...
Woman's reproductive rights under attack...

I could go on, but it would all be lost on this Robot in the senate.

in front of the world's television cameras while terrorists are plotting to destroy the US. Or invade a foreign country for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Or bankrupt the nation and allow cronies to loot the national treasury.

Good thing the Republicans are in charge.
