Russia's Aeroflot to choose Airbus planes over Boeing
Way to support American business, Herr Cheney. This also happened a few years back right around when Iraq was invaded and a local firm here in CT lost out to Europeans despite a much lower bid...

MOSCOW (AFP) - Russian flagship airline Aeroflot is to buy planes from Europe's Airbus instead of US-based Boeing, in apparent retaliation for US opposition to Moscow joining the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

"This is a clear signal to the United States not to put too much pressure on Russia in WTO talks otherwise many lucrative contracts and privileges could go to the Europeans," Yaroslav Lissovolik -- an analyst from the Deutsche UFG investment house -- told Saturday's edition of the Vedomosti business newspaper.

In December 2005, Vedomosti had said Aeroflot was considering buying 22 Boeing 787s, known as "Dreamliners".

But on Saturday it reported an anonymous official in Russia's presidential administration as saying that Aeroflot's board of directors had last month "decided that Aeroflot should buy the Airbus-350 liners".

6. I agree.
I was looking for a quote where Bush calls then an ally, but didn't. After what's been going on with Iran, I think the Bush administration is beginning to realize they underestimated Putin.

"I looked the man in the eye. I was able to get a sense of his soul." These were the words of President George Bush after his recent meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

That wasn't his soul, George. He just had a little indigestion that day.

7. Good choice, Russia. I hope the rest of the world can weather
the storm when the US sinks into its self-induced greater depression.

10. Reminds me of a quote in "Die Hard" by the Japanese executive
.
.
.

Goes sumthing like this:

"Well, you guys got us with bombs, we got you with transistor radios"

The USA has made it quite clear to the World that they are unbeatable Militarily, and are willing to bully their sorry asses into any country they want.

So the World is gonna bring the USA down financially, shunning them like a bad weed.

1929 may end up being renamed "The FIRST Crash"

Sorta like WW1 was called "The Great War" before WW2 happened.

So get ready USA - the whole world is watching what you are doing

and not fondly

12. Not really that surprising
Given that Aeroflot for the past couple of years have been adding Airbus A320 series aircrafts, have operated the Airbus A310 more or less since the USSR broke up & apparently have leased some A340's from Austrian Airlines.
