Bill Clinton to Become the Face of a Clothing Brand
http://shortnews.com/

Former US president Bill Clinton is giving his face to China based Fapai men's clothing, in a £1.3million deal, reports Vogue.com.
Fapai chairman, Peng Xing, has been sending Clinton suits, shirts, ties and shoes over the past 3 years to persuade Clinton to do the advertising.
The adverts are to be launched next year by the company, who have more than 300 stores divided between Italy, France, Japan, Hong Kong and China. The company was launched in 1997.

4. A devil's advocate observation...
Isn't Clinton going to receive holy hell if this company ends up (as it may well) producing under sweatshop conditions?

6. I read a few days ago the guy was trying to recruit Clinton
I thought his spokesman knew nothing about it. This could be premature. I think I'd wait for confirmation from somewhere else.

10. Agreed. Google news for bill clinton clothing and there are 3 recent hits
when you sort by date. None state it's a done deal. The most level headed is this one.

7. I.m having a problem with this, but I don't have all the facts.
Have any other former presidents advertised for businesses. I know Carter is into Habitat for Humanity, but that is a charitable work. Other than charity and socialwork is what I am talking about. Thanks

12. Don't know if it's true, but this one says Clinton did ads for rice wine
Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 09:16 PM by 54anickel
On edit, this was in response to post 7, sorry gin

Clinton, who was previously paid $400,000 to pose for Jiannanchun Co -an alcoholic drink made from distilled rice, will appear in the adverts from next year, reports Vogue.com.

Actually 2 articles make this claim:

11. Was he ever something else...
Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 09:17 PM by Dirk39
o.k. DUers will kill me, but although Bush might be the worst president of the USA ever, Clinton was the most cynical one. This guy is so cynical, that he doesn't even know anymore, what being cynical means. A postmodern contentless corporation-whore, lip-serving to everyone, opportunistic in a way never seen before. A pseudo-liberal in MTV times.
Maybe he should never have been more than a Face of a Clothing Brand.
If Clinton would be the president of the USA right now, the war against Iraq would have become a multilateral pop-event to save the world from the next Holocaust or somehting like this...

Kill me now:-),
Hello from Germany,
Dirk
P.S. I'm innocent: I hate Schröder more than I ever hated Kohl, and I hate Blair more than Thatcher. And what I hate the most is "new labour", "new democrats" and "neue Mitte" (new center). The 19th century mixed with pop isn't so new at all.

13. tacky if true . . .
the notion of a former U.S. President and world leader hawking shirts leaves a really bad taste . . . you'd think he could find something more dignified . . .
