R.I. Democrats endorse Kennedy for re-election

WEST WARWICK, R.I. Rhode Island Democrats are remaining loyal to Congressman Patrick Kennedy.

They've endorsed Kennedy for re-election at their state convention. Kennedy checked into a Minnesota rehab Friday for his second stay in less than five months. He entered the facility after a middle-of-the-night car crash near the Capitol.

Republicans have said Kennedy should step aside because he can't fulfill his duties. But Democratic leaders say he has done a good job and deserves support in his battle with addiction.

Kennedy has been elected to six terms in Congress. He is the son of Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy and the nephew of President Kennedy and senator and attorney general Robert Kennedy.

3. Patrick Kennedy is being persecuted because he's a Christian.
If you hear anyone criticize him, just accuse them of being anti-Christian.

4. I dunno
Seems to me if he has a battle with addiction, that's what he should be focusing on, not being in Congress which is beyond a full time job. Of course he deserves support in battling his addiction, but I'm not sure how you battle it given the stresses and demands of being a congressman, and not sure how you fully represent your district with your focus split in two.

5. He is my Congressman, and yes, I wholeheartedly agree w/you.
Patrick needs to step back and get his priorities in order.

He is apparently prone to addictions and this dynamic is not easily overcome.
He needs to get this issue resolved once and for all if he is to be
of any value to himself or others. Politics may not be the wisest career choice for him.

For the time being, he should stand aside and let
another demo take up the mantle of representing us at home.
