BBC: North Iraq blast kills 17 people (Tal Afar)
Edited on Tue May-09-06 02:29 PM by alcibiades_mystery

A car bomb attack has killed 17 people and injured 35 at a market in the north Iraq town of Talafar, police say.

The bomb in a pick-up truck exploded on Tuesday evening in the town 150km (90 miles) from the Syrian border.

---snip---

US President George W Bush praised the town this year as an Iraqi success story.

It was, he said in March, a "free city that gives reason for hope for a free Iraq".

---snip---

Tal Afar, George Bush's model city for Iraqi freedom, a bastion of hope in a sea of despair, we are to believe, with 60 Minutes, and a hundred and one US press organs getting the guided tour through the shining city on the hill from none other than Marine colonel H.R. McMaster (O! my shining stars and streamers - a Pentagon Propagandist of the First Order, amen)...

O! Sweet Tal Afar,
How your glory doth touch the shining sky
We ask not what, nor when, nor who, nor why
When tales of triumph we see on our screen
With children singing, markets lush and green
Each house a smiling family to report
Each street appearing very like a fort
Our troops now wander with the safety on
The news says the insurgents are all gone
Scrubbed off like blemishes or darkling moles
(Though your complexion doth seem full of holes)
And if perchance a bomb should mar your skin
We'll wait two weeks and then we'll film again...

1. Last year in Tal Afar
"A reason for hope for a free Iraq."

I guess Bush forget what happened last year in Tal Afar.

Tal Afar Iraq (Jan 19 2005). Out of confusion or fear, their parents failed to stop. It wasn't even a checkpoint. The soldiers opened fire and killed them. The kids survived in the backseat covered in the blood of their parents.
