Senator demands resignation of Housing Secretary after 'don't like Bush' dispute

RAW STORY
Published: Tuesday May 9, 2006

Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) called on President Bush to ask for the immediate resignation of the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson if a report about government contracts being awarded based on the contractor's opinion of President Bush are accurate, RAW STORY has learned.

...

“If Secretary Jackson really said this, then President Bush should ask for his resignation. Government contracts must be based on merit, not on political favoritism,” Lautenberg said in a release.

1. That's how I picked contractors to work on MY home...
But that's MY money I'm spending.

Jackson has no right to spend OUR TAX DOLLARS that way!

14. I believe it may be a misdemeanor
I seem to remember something in the USC about denying participation in gov't programs (the contract) on the basis of political affiliation being good for a year as Uncle Sam's guest. But I might be wrong on this. or on it's applicability.

4. I love Frank Lautenberg - he picks up on alot of the smaller issues that
need to have sunlight shone on them. They all add up to the bigger picture of an imperialistic Bush regime.

Salute, Senator Lautenberg. You rarely fail to get a hit in.

6. You know why Jackson did this, don't you?
Because they want these contractors plowing a portion of that money back to repukes. Heaven forfend that some of this could be contributed to anyone else, or not contributed at all.

All the contractors at county level out here(and their number has expanded greatly...) and big repuke contributors.

I think this has the makings of a blogospheric eruption. Let's go after this Jackson scumbag.

He is the Stephen Colbert of the Senate. Being rich, old, and probably not running for reelection (though who knows) gives you the luxury of actually speaking your mind and not hiding in the usual carefully nuanced nothingness of too many of our Democrats.

we should all vote with our wallets and pocketbooks...
and credit and debit cards.

As much as possible... i try not to patronize companies
that support the Republican Cabal of Corruption

(oh and while this is appropriate for us private citizens...
it's totally unethical in any department of government...
this guy should be held to account)

Dallas Business Journal - 7:42 PM CDT Tuesdayby Jaime S. JordanStaff Writer

U.S. Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg, D-NJ, has called for the resignation of Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson following a report in the Dallas Business Journal that Jackson scuttled a government contract after an applicant said he didn't like President Bush.

Separately, Rep. Henry A. Waxman, D-Calif., and Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., citing the same story, called for an investigation of all HUD contracting decisions during Jackson's tenure.
