Senators Attack Administration's Stand on Auto Fuel Economy
CAPITOL HILL (AP) -- Senators from both parties say the administration is dragging its feet when it comes to improving fuel economy requirements for cars. They ridiculed the administration's claim of a "bold" increase in small truck and SUV mileage.

1. They're doing this to score political points

A concerted program to curb oil consumption and raise fuel efficiency standards should have been started in the 1970s, and if Carter had his way, we'd be in far better shape than we are today, but no, we had to elect Reagan who is the Anti-Christ as far as environmentalism and energy conservation goes. When Reagan won, most of Carter's initiatives were shelved or scrapped completely, and we're now "behind schedule" by decades.

4. especially since he died
After someone dies, especially a president, it's illegal not to like them and say how great they were all the time.

5. Bush has ALWAYS had authority to raise standards on SUV's
and small trucks.

So, other than 31% approval and 3.00 plus per gallon of gas, Why is Bush suggesting changes now instead of say, December 30th 2002?

Why is he pushing for authority to dictate standards on passenger cars when he failed to dictate standards on the vehicles he always had authority to change?
