Queen formally welcomes Bush
Edited on Wed Nov-19-03 05:43 AM by emad aisat sana

Expression on Her Maj's face speaks volumes....

From BBC News:

Pomp and pageantry welcomes Bush

President George Bush has been formally welcomed to the UK by the Queen at a ceremony full of colour and tradition at Buckingham Palace. The president's visit comes amid unprecedented security due to anti-war protests and increased terror fears. He is expected to tackle Iraq critics later by saying war is sometimes the only way "to defend values". Despite the intense policing the visit began amid claims the Mirror newspaper had exposed a breach in security.

Edit: on further inspection, looks like Junior forgot to use a napkin at breakfast to remove some fried egg ....

2. She always looks like that
I watched it live and I tell you that morons beady shifty eyes freak me out. They look exactly like Sir William Gull's in the movie "From Hell", right after he's been exposed as Jack the Ripper :scared:

3. I didn't know that Bush requested the visit though
I've only just heard that. He also requested a State visit, as opposed to a regular official visit like Raygun used to enjoy.

8. How/where did you hear that? I would very much like to know.
I've heard reports that State visits are few and far between; the media is sickening me by portraying this as an honor Shrub deserves or something.

I will cackle with glee if this visit was something requested by Bush to elevate and legitimize his standing among world leaders, and not something earned or deserved.

4. What on earth is Bush doing?
Pledging allegiance to the flag? That cannot be-- He has that assumed dorky face on that he thinks portrays him as an honest, earnest, patriotic American. The same one that Ollie North likes to put on.

7. the Queen grins when she's having a good time ...
I saw her at the Commonwealth Games a while back -- sure looked different from these photos. That grim look ... it's a step beyond the neutral/serious expression she has when she's taking part in an official ceremony.
