Gingrich Says Hillary Clinton Is Beatable

Gingrich Says Hillary Clinton Is Beatable

Washington (AP) - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich agrees that Sen. Hillary Clinton is the Democratic front-runner should she make a bid for president in 2008. But winning, he says, is another matter. "This is a country which has elected a peanut farmer, an actor who made movies with monkeys. I mean, you know, with chimpanzees. I mean, many things happen in America," said Gingrich, referring to Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.

"But I think, you know, she has a lot of challenges, and there's a question whether or not there's a ceiling, that when you got down to the Hillary/anti-Hillary, whether or not she can break 50 percent in primaries," Gingrich said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Calling Clinton "formidable" as a presidential candidate, Gingrich said: "If we beat her we're going to beat her with better ideas. We're not going to beat her with some kind of negative campaign."

In recent weeks, the architect of the Republican takeover of the House in 1994 has traveled several times to Iowa and New Hampshire, urging congressional Republicans to rein in federal spending and focus on maintaining - if not building - their majority in the November midterm elections.

We could beat any ideas they put on the table. We just have to have the balls to say, "you guys have screwed us and the country over. 51% of Americans disapprove of the NSA spying on you. Do you really want another four to eight years of secret government and abridgement of the Constitution? Then vote Democrat".

6. Yes. But not with Hillary.
Without reopening the "balls" debate, Hillary has to show she's even capable of standing up and saying it--in the same terms you did.

If she can't be a leader, she won't get the job.

I agree completely. She - we - can't afford to be like Kerry, allowing the RW smear machine work on them. Say what you believe in a compelling fashion, and stand on your principles.

By the way: sorry for the "balls" thing if it offended you. It's just a metaphor I often employ when talking about politics.

2. Of course she's beatable
Edited on Sun May-14-06 10:17 PM by YOY
That's why she won't even get a chance to run. Hell she's even more beatable now that she was 2 years ago.

That's why we need someone else on the ticket other than her: Gore, Kerry, Clark, or Dean I don't freaking care, just get her blatant middle ground catering war-hawing ass out of the picture. She is not Big Dog.

8. Mind you the small percentage of DUers who don't understand that
will try and crucify us just for saying it but hell...the truth hurts. Just ask the Shrub when Colbert was speaking.

7. The world is coming to an end I agree with Newt
two times in one day. I just saw a little bit of him on C-span where he said we don't have an illegal immigrant problem we have an illegal worker problem. Now he said Hillary is beatable, I agree with that and will add she is our best chance to lose another election.

17. Because Hillary is basically assured nomination
Look at the polls... 40% of the party wants Hillary. The closest challanger is Kerry and Edwards tied at 16% each. Everyone else is a long-shot.

27. DLC Dems like Hillary are in bed with the corporations and it
was Bill Clinton that lobbies to push through Bush no. 1's NaFTA that has caused so many job losses here. The DLC is a republican group that infliltrated Democratics and they are responsible for the shift to the right of our party. If Hillary runs, I won't vote.
