Insurgents Down U.S. Helicopter, Killing 2
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Insurgents shot down a U.S. military helicopter during fighting south of Baghdad, killing two soldiers, the U.S. command said Monday.

The attack occurred Sunday during fighting in Youssifiyah, 12 miles south of the Iraqi capital, the military said in a brief statement.

1. Fug...
Amazing they actually admitted (rather quickly) it was shot down. Usually, their admission of such would come in a news release about a week after the incident.

My condolences to their families, and to us all...:(

8. Not your imagination.
I think the insurgents and militias are starting to target the helicopters more, now that they rule the ground.

I mean, it happens more and more frequently lately so why should we be bothering with this? :eyes:

7. My Former Neighbor Lauren Flies A Chopper In That Region
She left Sicily in Jan to train in CA. She deployed to Iraq in March. Oh God please don't let it be Lauren. She was scared to death to go to Iraq and only admitted that to me because of what happened to Ben. I will mourn each and every death but it cuts a bit deeper when someone has been part of your life. Take Care Lauren Honey. Please God.....

6. Who says this isn't IraqNam?
Sounding more and more familiar to those of us who lived that nightmarish time in history.

How many more mothers are going to lose their children because a handful of chickenhawks want to get richer?

When are the Bush twins going? When is Mary Cheney going?

10. Remember early on when they kept boasting that Iraq could not shoot down
our helicopters? Now they hardly get mentioned in the news.

11. Pile the bodies high

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

14. We supplied shoulder-launched missiles to Afghans to fight the USSR
And who's to say that the Russians aren't now arming the Iraqi insurgents in a like fashion?

Turnaround is fair play.

18. That was my thought, as well.
After Cheney shooting off his big mouth last week in Uzbekistan, who's to say the Russians aren't in a "helpful" mood this week?

With 'friends' like Cheney, you do not need enemies.

15. a video was posted of the aftermath
<snip>

After that attack, a new al-Qaeda group claimed responsibility and posted a gruesome video on the Web showing men dragging the burning body of what appeared to be an American soldier across a field as they shouted "Allahu akbar!" or "God is great!"

21. Two guys doing what they could to actually defend the USA
Will Cheney or Bush go to their funerals, even if they are at Arlington? Will anyone in the executive branch call their families or friends? My friend Jake got killed on his second tour in Afghanistan this winter. He was to have been married in six months and was nearly done with his MA. He was in the Reserves. My mom's dear old friend's grandson got killed just about a month ago in Iraq by an IED. His wife had their baby 2 weeks later. His funeral was so large that it had to be held in the local high school's auditorium and even then there was overflow... His unit came back before his body came to Huntsville. All of his Marine buddies were at his funeral. I wanted to go held assist at the funeral, even if all I did was to read the Epistle or Psalm or lead the Creed to represent the Episcopal Church, but it was overflowing with Baptist clergy. I stayed home and fasted since it was Lent. Every day seems like Lent these days. Even Easter did.
