Members of Latin America's largest Jewish community held a public gathering here to repudiate the attacks on two synagogues in Turkey that claimed 23 lives and injured hundreds.

Some 200 people gathered Tuesday evening at Argentina's rebuilt Jewish community center, scene of a 1994 terrorist bombing, to show solidarity with the victims of Saturday's bombings in Istanbul.

"We wish to express our absolute repudiation of this massacre carried out by the sinister hand of terrorists," said Abraham Kaul, president of the Israeli Argentine Mutual Association, known by its Spanish acronym as the AMIA.

The AMIA's previous building was destroyed by a powerful bomb in a July 18, 1994, bombing that killed 85 people. That attack, which followed a 1992 bombing of the Israeli embassy that claimed 22 lives, was the worst terrorist attack in Argentine history.
