AUGUSTA -- The state's second largest labor union is supporting Howard Dean for president, saying his stance on workers' rights, health care and the economy make him the best choice.
The Board of Directors of the Maine State Employees Association, which is affiliated with the Service Employees International Union, voted this week to back Dean. The local union, which represents more than 12,500 public and private workers in Maine, reinforced action taken recently by its national affiliate, SEIU.
The board is encouraging members to vote for Dean on Feb. 8, the day of the Democratic municipal caucuses.
"Throughout his 12 years as governor, he had a strong record of supporting working families," said Carl Leinonen, executive director of MSEA.
