Bush to Israel: End the "daily humiliation" of Palestinians
Wow! Most Democrats are scared to admit as much ...

Reuters Story

LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush has urged Israel to end the "daily humiliation" of Palestinians and not to prejudice final peace talks by erecting "walls and fences".

"Israel should freeze settlement construction, dismantle unauthorised outposts, end the daily humiliation of the Palestinian people and not prejudice final negotiations with the placement of walls and fences," Bush said on Wednesday in the keynote speech of his three-day state visit to Britain.

1. like other things he said
It would be cool if he really meant it. But it only makes sense if you add the following onto the end:

"But until you do, here's some more tanks, fighters, bombs, and guns. And I think Halliburton knows how to build security fences."

3. He is blowing hot air out of his @$%
He knows that Europe is very sensitive toward this issue. He will talk the talk but never walk the walk.

6. Israel to Bush: Piss off...
Bush to Israel: Don't worry, we are firm in our support for The Only Democracy In The Middle East. By the way, here's a few extra billion -- just don't spend it all on settlements.

:grr:

8. If he wants the Palestinians to stop supporting the "terrorists", Bush
should stop supporting Israel...the "other terrorists."

Plus, he goes to the UK to say things he should be saying to Israeli supporters at home...and they know for sure that he doesn't mean it. It's just a PR move to try to "appease" the Europeans who are against Israeli policies.

9. It's just straight lies
But at least he is saying it, unlike most of the Dems.

Israel will quite rightly ignore this unless it is backed by concrete action. Otherwise they know that it doesn't matter what is said in public, because they're tacitly getting the green light privately to do whatever they like anyway.

i.e.

"stop daily humiliation" + here are some more US bulldozers, gratis.

"don't prejudice negotiations" + we'll ooo and ahh on whether to cut loan guarantees as required by US law, and vote against UN resolutions not recognising the annexation of Jerusalem.

"freeze settlement construction" + say the exact opposite through state dept channels.

"final peace talks" + inform the GOI that the RoadKill is in a "Deep Freeze" until after Nov 2004.

"re-route the fence" + veto the UN/SC resolution against the fence.

Oh, and give Israel the most advanced military F-16's in the US arsenal to boot, right after they run exercises on their northern border in a transparent attempt to threaten Syria.

Fab.

11. This is just a sop to Blair.
Blair thought he had an absolute promise from * that * would crack down on the Israelis. That's his excuse for going along with Iraq. This is Shrubby afraid to show his face to Blair without pretending to be following through on his solemn committment.

For Bush, the only committment that counts is the one that they should make of him... to a mental institution.
