New voting machines are a hit
Polling place clerks find them easy to set up and early voters like what they see.

By Ted Williams

"Hey, I like this."

That unsolicited endorsement of Lehigh County's new voting machine by Joe Busolits at Devon House in Salisbury Township seemed to be a pretty common reaction this morning to its debut in today's primary election.

"It's a lot easier," said Busolits, a pastor. "It's readable, well-organized and I only saw the races for which I could vote. I don't miss the levers."

Lehigh County uses the Diebold AccuVote TSX, a high-tech, touch-screen device that replaces the traditional lever system. Even the booths and curtains have disappeared.

"I don't know much about computers, but this was simple to figure out," said Paul Kunkel, a retiree from Emmaus who voted at Moravian Church on Main Street this morning. "It was no problem at all. They should have done this a long time ago."

1. No one's saying that Diebold hasn't mastered the pickpocket's art . . .
Although there have been a few hiccups. And it's true -- touch screen interfaces ARE easier than punchcard or lever-actuated.

Too bad your vote disappears down a black hole if it's not "correct."

5. I guess I'm a luddite.
I've been voting for a long time and I kind of like the levers and all the clunks that go with it.

7. YES! All the PRETTY Colors!
Yeah, I liked them the first I used them back in the 2002 Georgia Primary, but then when you see your current Governor, who went into the Fall election with a 12% point lead in the Polls, suddenly lose, but their is NO WAY to have a recount, the pretty colors just turn to Black and Grey. :banghead:

11. They're so easy that they'll even do the voting for you
Just in case you've made an error in judgment the software automatically corrects your vote.

Handy for those close races!

12. Easier? LOL!! You bet they are! Easier to rig.
Whoever knew election fraud could be this easy?

Cheating's never been so fast and trace-free.

Neocons and right wingers love Diebold and Election Systems and Software, who happen to tally 80% of nationwide VOTES.

13. Why not like the lottery machines?
You get a piece of paper, and they can tell you w/out error how many went for what

14. "like what they see"--Well, of course! That's what good PR is for, silly.
It's what you DON'T see that makes all the difference in the world.
