U.S. prisons in Iraq release 151 inmates

A combined Iraqi-American review board has released 151 prisoners from U.S. military prisons in Iraq, officials said Tuesday. All of the released were men, and all had been screened by the board over the past weeks.

The Combined Review and Release Board includes representatives from the Iraqi government and the U.S. military. Since August 2004, the CRRB has reviewed more than 38,500 cases, officials said, and have recommended more than 19,400 prisoners for release.

The majority of those released by the board have been held for around six months, officials said earlier this year. The recidivism rate for those released stands at about 5 percent, a U.S. military official said last week.

U.S. plans include the return of the Abu Ghraib prison complex to Iraqi control later this year.

2. Incredible!

"Since August 2004, the CRRB has reviewed more than 38,500 cases, officials said, and have recommended more than 19,400 prisoners for release."

...and they released 151 individuals out of 19,400 they thought they should have released....and that's 5 percent, said a U.S. military official.

3. There are almost twenty thousand families wondering where their
sons/fathers are, probably thinking they are dead.

6. The obvious question: had they been convicted of anything?
Or were they just imprisoned for being related to someone, or looking at a soldier in a funny way?
