Senate gives Bush an immigration victory following speech (Spin spin spin)
Well spun, you librul media. 36D+18R vs 33R+7D=Bush victory? WTF?
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2002998340_webimmig16.html
The Senate rejected a call today to secure the nation's borders before tackling other immigration-related concerns such as citizenship for millions of men and women in the country illegally, a victory for President Bush and supporters of a comprehensive approach to a volatile election-year issue.

The vote was 55-40 against a proposal by Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., who said that anything less than a border security-first approach amounted to "a wink and a nod one more time to those who would come here" unlawfully.

Republican and Democratic supporters of the sweeping Senate bill said Isakson's approach would be self-defeating and derail the approach that Bush backed in Monday night's prime time speech from the Oval Office. "We have to have a comprehensive approach if we're going to gain control of the borders," said Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass.

In all, 36 Democrats and 18 Republicans joined with one independent to torpedo the amendment. Thirty-three Republicans and seven Democrats supported it....(more@ link)

1. Isakson wanted a border security-first approach, Bush didn't.
The senate defeated Isakson's proposal. Bush "won". Where's the spin?

3. The spin is how is this a "bush victory"?
"Bush renewed his call for Congress to act. " They acted. So is this a victory? Combine this with the call for Ntl Guard along the Mexican border and this comment from the story:"Still, Bush insisted, "The United States is not going to militarize the southern border.""

A not working clock is right twice a day. This seems like a democrat victory, not a bush one.

5. It's a victory b/c Bush got what he wanted...
a comprehensive approach. I guess the dems got what they wanted as well. I'm sure the republicans are thrilled to let Bush and the Dems take credit for this one. I'm sorry that that some dems don't like the face they see next to them in bed, but there it is.

6. I guess it is how the headline phrased it, wrong clock and all.
Occasionall he has to be right. It is normal for someone to once in a while be right. But I don't see it as a bush victory, but a victory for dems. Who can claim the victory is my complaint.

7. Honestly, I think the republicans are thrilled to let the dems
"claim victory" here. I'm confident that they'll be reminding the dems of this "victory" quite often in the coming months. LOL
