Blair's Vicious Attack on Bush's Party
Edited on Wed Nov-19-03 04:28 PM by TheWebHead
TONY Blair has attacked President Bush's Republicans for faking "compassionate" politics like Michael Howard's hardline Tories.

The Prime Minister branded George Bush's portrayal of Republicans as caring conservatives as a hollow "illusion".

..A secret record of the last NEC meeting showed Mr Blair saying: "Michael Howard's soft centrist language was an illusion, like the US Republicans' compassionate conservatism."

One NEC member said: "Blair is privately attacking Bush for being a nasty right-winger. But in public he's his best mate. He can't have it both ways and it is creating real divisions in the party."

3. Nice try, Poodle Boy.
Isn't it a little late for him to be angry at Bush? He hates Bush's brand of "compassionate conservativsm," but applauds and supports his brand of immoral warmaking?

I'm glad Tony's come around, but too little, too late, too many dead... :-(

6. Maybe Blair's waking up to the fact that "third-way" politics is bunk!
Both Blair and Clinton think that politics can both be socially progressive and economically regressive. Both of them made careers sucking up to the moneyed elite and corporate fat cats. And what thanks did they ever get from their reactionary friends?

20. We don't do the 'third way' ,we do consensus (usually).
This whole Third Way nonsense was made up by people like Blair to justify stealing Right-wing policies in order to get elected. Canada is better than that!

22. The "third way" is the contraceptive that ex-liberals wear...
...while giving it to workers, civil liberties and the public trust. This device allows these moderates to engage in the practices and policies of conservatism while preserving that sacred. . .something or other. . .that prevents them from being more honest with voters and themselves.

13. A psy-op, British style?
Edited on Wed Nov-19-03 05:13 PM by rocknation
Tony must realize that he can't survive politically as long as Bush is his Siamese twin (at the very least, he must be concerned about what history will write about him). So he declines to pray with him, has him bunk in with the Queen, doesn't interfere with the police refusing to corral the protestors like farm animals, and now this "leak." Most important, keep in mind that Bush invited himself to England in the wake of some political floundering of his own. Tiny little chinks in the armor, yes. But maybe it's really meant to be grounds for the beginning of a divorce.

Do us proud tomorrow, mates--let's see a HUMUNGOUS turnout at the protest tomorrow!

23. Imagine if Blair
decides to renounce his evil ways and start to do the right thing for a change? Maybe this trip will push him over the edge? Blair has a brain and a conscience. I don't see how he can live with himself at this point. He is the most haunted looking man on earth.

I know it will never happen but it's such a nice fantasy to think of Tony Blair standing up in the House of Commons to denounce the PNAC and Bu$hCo. To admit the the invasion of Iraq was a major mistake and a crime. I think at least 95% of the planet would rejoice and he would go from being the chimps pooch to international hero overnight.

26. It's not even an illusion.
David Copperfield performs "illusions"- illusions actually look real. Simply saying "I'm a compassionate conservative" and then going and doing the opposite right out in front of everybody at every opportunity doesn't even constitute an illusion. It's lying.

Serves him right. May they enjoy a long and acrimonious partnership in hell.

33. This is just too weird.
The whole thing about Blair teaming up with Bush was strange to begin with. Blair is part of the liberal party. Earlier this year when the war drums started beating, Blair's own party was very adamantly opposed to his "alliance with the devil". The conservatives, on the other hand, were more agreeable to the idea.

How about that for an identity crisis? And now this? It just strikes me as lip service to whomever will listen to him. The more I hear about him, the less I like him.

After all, what's Bush done for Blair lately? Besides making Blair more hated with each passing day. That's the problem with making friends with the Bushmeister. You befriend him, and you pay and pay and pay.....pay.....pay

POLICE ARREST 22 BUSH PROTESTORS

Nov 19 2003

By Kevin Lynch

Police this evening arrested 22 anti-war protesters in central London opposing President Bush's state visit to the UK.

According to police around 300 demonstrators broke away from a rally in Trafalgar Square and surged down the mall to Buckingham Palace with around 100 others breaking off to protest in Whitehall.

-snip-

In a keynote speech to academics at Whitehall Palace this afternoon, the President insisted that military action in the region was justified in the global fight against terrorism.

Mr Bush warned: "The evil is in plain sight.(He's got that right!)
The danger only increases with denial.

-snip-

In a wide ranging speech, the President also paid tribute to UK service personnel who died in the Iraqi conflict and also pledged to work towards a viable Palestinian state amid security for Israel.

-snip-

But there was a less warm welcome for Mr Bush outside the Palace as protestors opposed to the Iraq war gathered behind metal barriers.

Although the protesters were kept several dozen yards from the gates, their chants could be heard inside the grounds as the president greeted dignitaries.

-snip-
