US announces plans to speed up operations in Iraq
This isn't that interesting, it was just that the
excerpt was so Orwellian it cracked me up.

KERRY O'BRIEN: As US President Bush was preparing the keynote speech for his historic British visit, laying out a vision for global peace and democracy, American
planes were straithing central Baghdad for the first time since the war ended there.

2. 500 DEAD Coalition soldiers
November sizing up as the month with the most grievous losses of the war. That is should be the real story.

3. They are in a race against time
The variables: money, oil and troops.

Variable #1: Money, meaning US taxpayer money which is being diverted to fund this war. The US may be rich, but there is a finite amount that can be tapped from taxpayers.

Variable #2: oil. They are hoping to get the oil running through the pipelines before the taxpayer money runs out. There is more oil under the sands of Iraq than we have paid, so their cost-benefit analysis is a profitable one. However, time is not on their side. The Iraqi resistance fighters are not cooperating. They are in a desperate struggle to blast them (along with plenty of others) off the face of the earth so they can get the oil flowing.

Variable #3: troops. This is the most expendable of the three. There is more money than troops, so they will concentrate their efforts on large bombs rather than use labor-intensive troops, and keep their fingers crossed.
