Howard compares Iran to Nazi Germany
May 20, 2006 - 5:10PM

Prime Minister John Howard was among three world leaders who today said an Iranian bill, which reportedly would force non-Muslims to wear coloured badges in public, was akin to Nazi Germany.

However, Teheran emphatically denied the report, in a Canadian newspaper, that the law would force Jews, Christians and Zoroastrians to wear a yellow, red or blue strip of cloth, respectively, on their clothes.

While acknowledging they had no details beyond the newspaper report, Mr Howard and leaders from the United States and Canada went on the offensive, all evoking the atrocities of Nazi Germany.

Mr Howard was joined in the attack on Iran by the US and Canada, who said they had no details on the issue beyond the newspaper report.

19. Notice the line?
"While acknowledging they had no details beyond the newspaper report..."

So, they had no idea if it was true at the time, and yet they choose to scold Iran right off the bat?

4. Another diversion, more propaganda
It's interesting that the same week Israel's high court affirmed the racist marriage ban on the spouses of Israeli Arabs we get this pile of tripe. That story barely made waves while this is pushed by the neo-cons as yet another excuse to attack Iran. It's shameful propaganda of the lowest order and if anybody should be tagged with the nazi label it's the perpetrators of the "big lie" that pushed this.

7. This is from the Jerusalem Post
http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1145961370884&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull

"Israel has declared war on family life and, by extension, on its very ethical foundations. The Supreme Court's decision to uphold the provisional law denying spouses of Israel's Arab citizens the right to reside in the country comes on the heels of the coalition agreements that preclude any change in the prohibition on non-religious unions.

Israel has become the only country in the democratic world where not all those who marry can live in its territory and where many of those who live in its territory cannot marry. "

His writings focus on the Middle East affairs and topics related to Islamist terrorism.

16. Your link doesn't work
Anyway, there's a shameful history of black PR.

In this country, it dates back at least to World War I, when the British tried to encourage the U.S. to join the war by spreading stories of German soldiers eating Belgian babies for lunch. (This was revealed to be a lie after the war, and memories of that deceitful campaign were one reason why a lot of people refused to believe the first reports of the Holocaust.)

I remember talking with otherwise liberal friends about the Nicaraguan situation after John Negroponte spread reports that the Sandinistas were persecuting Jews. They believed the reports, even though the idea made no sense to me, since governments usually persecute only minorities that are numerous enough to be visible to the public as a whole, not minorities that are a minuscule percentage of the population.

20. Iran's definely a tyranny under Ahmadijad and the clerics
but that doesn't make it Nazi Germany. I hate it when people compare things to Nazi Germany without truly compherending just how evil Nazi Germany was. I hate it when our side does it too.

24. I still find it hard to take him seriously
After living under Howard's regime for over 10 years I find that he still has trouble faking sincerity. He actually is a dangerous little nerd. He had no quarms about sending our troops into Iraq after knowing that our wheat board had given Sadam Hussein 300 hundred million dollars in kick backs. He has no conscience. He has just signed off on an industrial relations bill which is certain to create a "working poor" class of people. He solved our deficit problem by selling the Australian people's biggest asset (Telstra, our telecommunications company).

His little holiday is costing us in excess of 60 thousand dollars a day. He may be comparing Iran to Nazi Germany, but I remember that he was one of the very few that supported Israel's wall of shame. That reminded me of the Warsaw Ghetto.

Thankyou to that one protester in Washington and thankyou to all the trade union protesters in Canada.
