President Bush hails unity government in Iraq

Washington - US President George W Bush offered congratulations late Saturday to Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on the formation of a new government of national unity in war-torn Iraq.

'Iraqis now have a fully constitutional government, marking the end of a democratic transitional process in Iraq that has been both difficult and inspiring,' Bush said in a statement issued by the White House. 'This broadly representative unity government offers a new opportunity for progress in Iraq.'

...

The formation of a national unity government in Baghdad 'opens a new chapter' in Iraqi history, Bush said.

'Iraq's new leaders know the period ahead will be filled with great challenge. But they also know that they - and their great country - will not face them alone,' he said. 'The United States and freedom-loving nations around the world will stand with Iraq as it takes its place among the world's democracies and as an ally in the war on terror.'

1. Maybe Bush can show them how to build coalitions
and keep the future of the nation as a higher priority than inter-party strife.

Nah.

4. I wish I could say the same damn fool thing over and over
and have millions of people pay attention. Fortunately, despite the corporate media's insistance that these cretins know what they're doing, most will now not fall for this nonsense.

5. Peace is the last thing the PNAC wants
The sectarian strife, the supposed need for US troops....all according to plan. This "unity" government is merely window dressing for public consumption. The real plan is for us to stay there...forever. The real plan is to maintain a state of emergency in Iraq. It gives us troops in position for the Cold War Part 2.

6. Iraqi death squads and bombs greet Cabinet of Unity's first day
RICHARD GRAY

THE crucial formation of Iraq's first post-war government was marred yesterday by a walkout by Sunni Arab leaders and further escalation in the violence that has taken the country to the brink of civil war.

At least 20 people were killed by a huge bomb planted among workers looking for jobs, just before the vote in Baghdad to end months of political deadlock by approving Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's Cabinet.

Police found the bodies of another 19 Iraqi civilians who had been kidnapped and tortured by death squads that plague the capital, and two British soldiers were injured in a roadside bomb attack in Iraq's second largest city, Basra.

It was also reported that Japan is on the verge of withdrawing its 600 troops from Iraq, which would put further pressure on British troops policing the increasingly violent south of the country ..
