WDSU TV shows a smaller percentage of the vote in but Nagin with a larger lead. WDSU hasn't predicted the winner yet.
I wonder if the fix is in. :sarcasm:

7. Sigh.
An incompetent, scared Repub in Democratic clothing. Many of my relatives in NO are heavily involved in local and national Democratic politics, and not one voted for Nagin.

He is NOT what the city needs now. Landrieu, for all his faults, would have gotten things done.

Edited on Sat May-20-06 10:56 PM by rocknation
He may be a DINO, but he was one that appeared to be made a scapegoat for Bush policies, which resulted in a sympathy vote. His chocolate city remark may been his defining moment--he appears, at least, to want to put things back the way they were.

Nagin Wins Re-Election As Big Easy Mayor By MICHELLE ROBERTS, Associated Press Writer
3 minutes ago

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060521/ap_on_el_st_lo/new_orleans_mayor

NEW ORLEANS - Mayor Ray Nagin, whose shoot-from-the-hip style was both praised and scorned after Hurricane Katrina, narrowly won re-election over Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu on Saturday in the race to oversee one of the biggest rebuilding projects in U.S. history.

With 84 percent of precincts reporting, Nagin had 52.7 percent, or 51,885 votes, to Landrieu's 47.3 percent, or 46,625 votes.

21. His win is his biggest loss. He will never get the resources from Feds
to do the job needed. It's how most minorities in high level positions fail...just withhold the resources and moral support.

I actually was hoping that he would lose for his own sake.

while listening to his victory speech a little while ago.

If he wasn't quoting scripture he was singing the praises of the boy king. We need to thank George Bush for all he's done for us. He kept his promises, yadda yadda.

Pretty amazing that a (cough cough) Dem kisses his ass on national TV when most repubes won't be seen within 50 feet of him.

...he ran as a DINO and even endorsed Bobby Jindal over Blanco. Now all of a sudden he tries to run as an outsider and a populist when a few years ago Mitch Landrieu would have been considered the more progressive candidate.

33. Anyone who votes using your criterion...
...will receive the leadership they deserve. I certainly hope that doesn't account for Nagin's re-elction. He would have been a harmless enough mayor during normal times, and I appreciate his passion during the storm, but as a native New Orleanian (with immediate family still there), I don't think he's up to the extraordinary job of leading New Orleans the next four years.

In what part of the city do you live?

For a guy who wanted Mayor Nagin's job, he sure complemented him a lot and agreed with him on nearly every issue. Plus, he's from a political dynasty, which hurt him.

37. Justly so. Higher-up's tried to blame HIM for FEMA's inability to act.
I truly believe Nagin will act in the interest of displaced N.O. citizens, and rebuild a N.O. that is NOT a white-washed wonderland. I could be wrong, but he seems to be a STRONG negotiator, and will see the city's "history" and dynamics are preserved (as much as possible.)

Although I AM suprised the election at least appears to be "untampered with."

39. this federal admin does not want to rebuil NO -- that's why they've
had the economic summit with caterpillar, walmart, etc -- all the big multinationals are going to vie for the contracts and invest their own money to build the NO they want.

and yes nagin is more than receptive to the idea -- he was there at the summit in NO.

40. I voted for Landrieu BUT
I did vote for Nagin 4 years ago. He's done good many things for this city and we were moving in the right direction pre-Katrina. Had Katrina not happened or if Landrieu hadn't been running, I may have voted for him again. Although I was dissappointed with the results, I am now at peace with this. The people have spoken and I support Nagin as our Mayor. I'm behind him 100% and ready to move forward with rebuilding this city.

In my opinion, the city has been paralized for months because of the delays in this election. I'm just glad the election process is over, we know who our leader is and that we can get this show on the road!

43. I guess New Orleans doesn't blame "State and Local" officials?
Edited on Sun May-21-06 07:10 PM by IanDB1
After 9/11, New York strongly rejected George W. Bush, because they knew who was responsible for letting the terrorists drop a plane on them.

After Katrina, New Orleans has endorsed Mayor Ray Nagin, once again putting the blame on the right man-- George W. Bush-- who drowned their city.

"State and Local," MY PET GOAT!
