Israeli prime minister to press Bush on unilateral plan
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=74a68a677db50931

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is on his way to Washington, where Tuesday he will hold his first meeting with President Bush at the White House.

The future of the West Bank and the Iranian nuclear threat are topping the agenda.

Mr. Olmert is seeking President Bush's support for his plan for unilateral Israeli pullouts from large parts of the West Bank. American backing is vital, and the prime minister hopes to build on the legacy of his predecessor, Ariel Sharon, who has been in a coma since a massive stroke in January. Zalman Shoval is a former Israeli ambassador to Washington.

'The nuclear option in the hands of someone like the present Iranian regime, is a threat to the rest of the world, to Europe, to the Arab Middle East, to Israel, as well,' said Zalman Shoval.

Israel has grown increasingly alarmed about Iran's nuclear program since October, when the Iranian president threatened to 'wipe' the Jewish state 'off the map.'

2. Not to worry Mr. Olmert--"Israel first" is still U.S. policy--but war...
with Iran would be a mistake for Israel and the whole world.

4. United States to present Olmert with 'new ideas' to advance talks with PA
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/718271.html

Olmert left for Washington Sunday and will meet with U.S. President George W. Bush on Tuesday. The main topics of their meeting will be Iran's nuclear program, the deteriorating situation in the Palestinian Authority and Olmert's unilateral "convergence" plan for evacuating West Bank settlements. Olmert will present the principles of this plan, but the two leaders will not discuss it in detail.
snip...
Monday evening, Olmert will attend a working dinner with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and National Security Advisor Steve Hadley.

On Wednesday, he will address both houses of Congress in a joint session, where he will discuss both Israeli-Palestinian relations and the Iranian threat.

He will also hold meetings with Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Vice President Richard Cheney, congressional leaders, American Jewish leaders and leading American journalists. He will return to Israel on Thursday.

Israel will address Congress on Wednesday... I hate it when Cheney gets these visits ... I get visions of WWIII in my head...
