Europe, N.Y. stock exchanges may merge

Europe's stock exchange, Euronext, may accept a merger offer by the New York Stock Exchange in a deal expected to create a 24-hour market.

The Sunday Telegraph reports John Thain, chief executive of the NYSE board, is to push an offer intended to block talks between Euronext and the German exchange, Deutsche Borse.

Jean Francois Theodore, chief executive of Euronext, is expected to recommend the NYSE bid on Tuesday.

If the merger takes place, the joint market board will be worth $21 billion
