LAT: FBI Agents Rebel Over Mandatory Transfers
FBI Agents Rebel Over Mandatory Transfers
By Richard B. Schmitt, Times Staff Writer
May 22, 2006

WASHINGTON — The FBI's storied workforce is being dismantled and reassembled as Director Robert S. Mueller III tries to overhaul the hidebound agency.

The result is a culture war between old and new, and older agents are rebelling. Among the disaffected are hundreds of agents in field offices around the country who are suddenly facing forced transfers to FBI headquarters....

***

The agents argue that the upheaval is counterproductive. They say they have spent years cultivating contacts and relationships with state and local officials, which are not easily replaced. Middle managers, such as squad leaders and desk supervisors, often form the institutional memory of the bureau's 56 field offices.

"Nobody is happy about it," said (Michael) Clark, who recently left the bureau for the top security and investigative job at Otis (Elevator Co.). "You are going to lose a ton of experience."...

***

Agents in the field who have five years of supervisory experience are being required to apply for supervisory positions in Washington. People who refuse the transfer are dropped out of the ranks of management and forced to accept a pay cut....

3. They are dismantling the FAA as I type.
I'll post a thread about it later, but basically they are doing to the FAA what they've done to FEMA. I know air traffic controllers and they are p-i-s-s-e-d.

4. The destruction of these agencies ability to operate is a problem
(Exhibit 1, FEMA, totally destroyed by Bushco). That said, there was(is) something wrong with the FBI independent of Bushco. Mid level FBI management sat on the Phoenix Memo and the Moussaie Warrant requests which were our best shots at foiling 9/11 and thats a problem independent of Bush. Of course, having Bush deal with the problem is having one fuck up try to fix another fuck up. Its not going to work and it will only make things worse (EXhibit 2, Goss' CIA, and Exhibit 3, DHS).

6. What government agency is left for them to destroy??
We won't have any type of government left by 2009. I guess it'll be a kingdom by then.

7. This is terrifying..
The career professionals are vital to our National Security. The are on the front lines. They will not be able to work in DC. And their replacements will not be equipped to function in the field.

Up until this murderous crowd came into power, our nonpartisan civil service has been what made this country work. They are not beholden to any ideology or party and are free to do their jobs according to law and precedent. This is, of course, an inherent threat to any monarch.

11. I think the Mafia is truly envious of this group of thugs
When Law and Order is the only enemy then you need to dismantle Law enforcement Agencies. Mafia did it with bribes Bush* does it with intimidation and destruction.
