ACLU Files Nationwide Suits Against Wiretaps
http://www.wcbs880.com/pages/39331.php?

NEW YORK (AP) -- A civil rights group filed complaints in 20 states Wednesday and invited the public to pressure officials to probe whether phone companies broke laws by sharing customer records with the government's biggest spy agency.

The American Civil Liberties Union announced its ``Don't Spy On Me'' campaign with the complaints to state utility commissions and attorneys general and with a demand that the Federal Communications Commission in Washington look into the matter.

In full-page ads in eight newspapers, the ACLU asked readers to join the formal complaints because, as it said in bold type: ``AT&T, Verizon and Other Phone Companies May Have Illegally Sent Your Phone Records to the National Security Agency.''

The campaign, symbolized by a telephone with an eye on it, urges the members of the public to go to an ACLU Web site to add their names to the complaints about allegations that telecommunications companies illegally cooperated with the NSA to collect calling information patterns on Americans.

ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero said in a teleconference Wednesday that the organization was demanding investigations by oversight bodies because Congress has been ``curiously silent'' on the issue and because the public must pressure public officials to do their jobs.

1. The ACLU is the only group that has our back it feels like
I see the Dems aproving the Spymaster Overlord and realize we're not being represented at all. Corporate power rules America. Sorry, but I just am not feeling very hopeful for REAL effective change these days.
I am a proud card carrying member of the ACLU and can only hope being on the Democrat aproved sh*t list, in some ultra secret file somewhere, doesn't bring a knock at the door.

4. Well damn!
You're one of them liberal card carryin' members of the ACLU pushing communism on us Americans and trying to ruin our country!

No, but seriously, good for you! That's just something I've heard some nut say to a friend of mine. I'm glad that there are people on our side doing something since our Dem leaders seem to be doing very little to represent us at this point.

10. Would having ONLY (Verizon) high speed internet qualify me?
My only phone provider is T-Mobile cell service- I have no land line. BUT, I do use Verizon Fios (fiber optic) high speed internet. I'm just curious if it would be appropriate for me to sign on to this particular petition. I suspect it would be, as I'm certain my internet activity is most likely thoroughly monitored and logged by Verizon also.

If I expect THEM to be honest, I feel I should be also...

12. I'm a card-carrying member of the ACLU
and this is just another reason why I'm ever so proud of it.
It's about time someone did something about this fiasco of spying on Americans.
