Poll: Democrat leads for governor(Ohio)
Edited on Thu May-25-06 12:23 PM by RawMaterials
A new poll out today from the University of Cincinnati shows Democrat Ted Strickland leading Republican Ken Blackwell in the race for governor.

The Ohio Poll of registered voters showed Strickland, a U.S. Rep. from Lisbon, with 50 percent, while Blackwell - now the Secretary of State - had 44 percent.

The margin of error was plus or minus 3.7 percentage points, which means the race is too close to call.

In the race for U.S. Senate, incumbent Mike DeWine, a Republican, leads Democrat Sherrod Brown 52 percent to 42 percent.

The poll of 698 registered voters statewide was conducted from May 9 to May 21.

It is the first Ohio Poll since the May 2 primary.

1. "which means the race is too close to call" - ?!?!?!?!?
yeah - the election isn't for another five months, right?

I'm glad things are looking good for Stickland, but damn, this is journalism?

2. Has anyone seen Blackwell's Myspace Page?
Its not really him, but a pretty brutal satire.

5. Isn't that a big jump in the wrong direction?
I thought the last poll had Strickland up by 15 or so? And Brown was leading DeWine, now he's 10 points down? (I'll bet the Hackett people are whipping up a big dose of "ToldYaSo" over THAT...)

Crap.

9. I WARNED people about this...
By brother-in-law is working on the Blackwell campaign (mid-level stuff...he's not knocking on doors and handing out flyers). Blackwell is in the process of mobilizing over 100k Ohio fundies (thanks, in part, to his pal the Rev. Rod Parsley).

This is NOT a man to underestimate, especially in a state like Ohio.

13. Its an inaccurate poll - Rasumssen more accurate
But don't worry, Dems in Ohio aren't taking anything for granted. Brown and Strickland are both barnstorming the state - Kerry, Reid and others have been in town. Hillary is coming in later this month to NE Ohio. Both camps are doing house parties, phone banking, etc.

Rumor has it DeWine and Blackwell are starting to lose donors to the Dem camp. This poll is the GOP's way of bringing donors back in line.

15. Accurate or not, I see some here getting complacent about this race.
I think we can win this, but it's not going to be a walk in the park. I think underestimating Blackwell (not saying that you're doing that) is a very dangerous thing to do.

12. It's still way too early to predict anything, but
the manner in which Paul Hackett was dumped was probably the dumbest thing the national Democrats and Brown could have done. How does Brown expect to get much help from the angry Hackett supporters?

6. "Too close to call" - that's just to get people ready
for when Blackwell suddenly pulls ahead and "wins" despite being behind on election day.

Less suspicious when you aren't 6 points behind.

8. What's going on with the Secretary of State race?
If people are trully worried about fair elections, this is the office to pay attention to.

10. Blackwell will win...as will DeWine.
Diebold or no Diebold the idiots in Ohio (which is where I live) will vote for Republicans. They can steal money from the workers comp funds, invest them in rare coins, lose it all etc. They can golf 110 times with lobbyists and other contractors for free and take gifts (bribes) like Gov. Taft and still win. They can be in bed with the most religious nut-job freaks (Parsely) and still win. Reps can be responsible for thousands of lost jobs and shitty schools and still win. Reps can ostracize gays and take away human rights and get elected here. Hell the Secretary of State can control elections while running for Governor while at the same time owning stock in the Ohio based company that owns and operates the voting machines...and still win!

I hate this fucking state. The only trade-off is that it is cheap to live here. Wonder why? No one in their right mind wants to live in this waste-land of a Nazi camp.

11. What's happened in Ohio?
Is it the decline in blue-collar jobs (affecting Akron and Cleveland, especially)?

14. I refuse to think that way - they're both ahead in the polls
and have been for months. Bush and Taft's approval is sinking in this state. GOP voters are very disillusioned and sick of the corruption.

16. I don't agree. I think we have a decent chance of winning both races.
Neither is going to be easy, however.

Off topic: I see you're a pilot...for whom?

17. I just get so pissed...
Ohio is a decent state overall. But people seem to always vote against their own best interests here.

Akron, Cleveland, Youngstown, Toledo, Columbus and Dayton typically go blue. Cincy and the rest of the state goes red primarily. All of the jobs lost on the Ohio River from Steubenville all the way to Huntington, WV. are a huge problem.

I am tired of losing every GOD DAMN time I go to the polls.

I am a private pilot and own a couple of Cessnas. 100 octane is running about $3.60/gal. It has taken my joy rides down a notch.

18. Fly out of CAK?
I'm an ATC at Cleveland Center. If you break 8000' on an IFR flight plan or flight following, I may be the one you're talking to.

:hi:

I'm frustrated too. It's almost as if southern Ohio is a different state.

20. Actually Geauga County (7G8)
Pretty rare that I break 8 especially in the 152. It takes a week to get to that alt, especially this time of year.

I'm instrument rated but don't fly IFR too often. I purely joy ride and don't much feel like dealing with weather or low visibility. But as you know it is tough to live in NE Ohio and not have an instrument. Many cases where weather turns sour quickly, especially fog by the lake.

Your co-workers are steering around some big stuff in Toledo right now.

21. Ahhh...that's actually the next area north of me
(my airspace goes north to about YNG)

"Your co-workers are steering around some big stuff in Toledo right now "

Yeah, I saw that...thunderstorm season can be a bear around here. Kinda makes me glad I have today off (though I'm sure I'll have ample opportunity to work my butt off this summer).

Lemme know if you're ever planning to fly south on an IFR. We'll take care of you.

23. OT Can I ask you a question?
I'm not tinfoil hat on the issue of MIHOP 9-11, but were you working ATC that day? If so, what happened, particularly w/ regard to the Flight 93 as it came over Cleveland air space?

You can PM me if you prefer.

25. I was doing a project in Atlantic City on 9/11.
(computer modeling for RVSM at the FAA Tech Center)

I spoke with the controller working the sector where UAL93 crashed, though, and she told me that she did not see anything close enough to have shot it down.

24. Yep
With an angry mob of torch bearing citizens.

The GOP owns and controls most of the news media, print and otherwise, in Ohio. The state has been under total, strict GOP control for so long, EVERYONE is afraid to step out of line. Toledo Blade is the only major daily paper willing to speak out. Others, like the Cleveland and Cincinnati papers, are more than willing to do the White House's bidding.
