Terror gang 'planned to blow up nightclub'
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/05/25/uministry.xml&sSheet=/news/2006/05/25/ixnews.html

The Old Bailey has heard that members of an alleged British terror cell discussed planting explosives in London's famous Ministry of Sound nightclub.

Jawad Akbar said they would not be blamed for killing innocent people but "those slags dancing around", the jury heard.

In secret recordings made by security surveillance teams, Akbar and Omar Khyam, another member of the alleged al-Qa'eda-linked cell, appear to discuss possible targets.

Khyam is heard to discuss attacking utility companies, in order to cut off essential supplies around the country. But Akbar suggests that the central London venue would make a softer target for a terror attack, according to the prosecution.

1. That's an old playbook from back in the eighties
Our new best friends, Libya, were implicated in the bombing.

They used it more recently in Indonesia.

2. It was a nightclub in Germany
Berlin Discothèque Bombing, April 5, 1986:
Two U.S. soldiers were killed and 79 American servicemen were injured in a Libyan bomb attack on a nightclub in West Berlin, West Germany. In retaliation U.S. military jets bombed targets in and around Tripoli and Benghazi.

3. I remember the event well--the entire military was on red alert
There was also a less publicized bombing at the USO in Naples. http://www.rewardsforjustice.net/english/acts_of_terror/index.cfm?page=USOClub

4. And in response to our bombing Libya,
Qaddaffi said he would bring terror to the streets of America. I worked in Washington then, not too far from the Capitol. I was afraid. As far as I know, nothing happened.
