Myanmar extends Suu Kyi's detention
Myanmar extends Suu Kyi's detention
Last Updated Fri, 26 May 2006 23:08:42 EDT
CBC News

Just hours after United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan asked them to "do the right thing" and release Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar's military rulers have extended the detention of one of the world's best known pro-democracy advocates.

It is unclear whether Suu Kyi will remain under house arrest for another six months, or a year, but what is clear is that the military made its move in defiance of Annan's plead for her release.

4. That in the end is the great quandary of the world.
What indeed do we do? Considering that there are reprehensible regimes in China, North Korea, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Belarus, the better part of a dozen African nations, etc...

11. But they have natural gas
and Unocal is building the pipeline. Hence no US concern for human rights.
The Burmese military forces villagers to work on the pipeline.
Those who refuse are thrown alive onto bonfires, along with their family.

Here's a photo of a Burmese forced laborer, working for Unocal:
