Iraq PM impatient with US troops killing civilians

BAGHDAD, May 30 (Reuters) - Iraq's prime minister said on Tuesday his patience was wearing thin with excuses from U.S. troops that they kill civilians by "mistake" and said he would launch an investigation into killings at Haditha last year.

"There is a limit to the acceptable excuses. Yes a mistake may happen but there is an acceptable limit to mistakes," Nuri al-Maliki told Reuters when asked about a U.S. investigation into the deaths of 24 Iraqis in the western town last November.

"We are worried about the increase in 'mistakes'. I am not saying that they are intentional. But it is worrying for us," he said in an interview in his offices in Baghdad.

1. governments love to make "strict laws" and "touger penalities" when
it comes to individuals. When it comes to their own behavior (which is yours and mine by proxy), mass murder suddenly becomes an 'oops, our bad' moment, shrugs it's collective shoulders and walks away.

The mind boggles.

5. Yes, he could kiss ass harder. See...
Saying "mistakes" with quotation marks is much heavier snark than anyone's used to seeing from the Iraqi government. I mean, the whole idea that they wouldn't believe their noble American allies about these being actual mistakes... it speaks to having a little bit of a spine, for once. It's broadcasting they don't believe the propaganda about "mistakes" at all.

Having said that, it's not like they're going to DO anything about it, even if different messages are coming out of their mouths than 100% ass-kissing. 75% is bad enough.

8. That crossed my mind, too
He's forgetting who he works for--and it ain't the people of Iraq.

Like your Dawa militias aren't responsible for untold similar massacres.
