Sen. Reid met with two of Abramoff's tribal clients
March 30, 2006

Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nevada) met with two of Jack Abramoff's tribal clients who were represented by one of his former staffers.

In June 2003, Reid met with the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan and the Meskwaki Tribe of Iowa. Both were clients of Edward Ayoob, who worked with Abramoff at the Greenberg Traurig firm.

Later that year, Reid sponsored a bill to direct $100,000 to the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana, another Ayoob/Abramoff client. Reid said Louisiana lawmakers asked him to support the measure.

6. But Abramoff didn't set it up or pay a bribe, that's the damn difference!
Indian tribes have a long history of working with Dems, Abramoff steered them toward the Repugs. Abramoff had nothing to do with this meeting, it's just the media trying to tar the Dems.

I remember stories at Enron time :they tried to give Gore money too! (Emphasis on Enron, money and Gore - a very small "tried" - and never mentioned "but were refused"

3. I only have an issue with his love of the new NSA Commando and
considering the way Hillary and Fiengold felt, REid is either crazy or wants to crap all over the constitution just like the neofascist cons.

4. So what. There are Indians in Nevada and usually the various
tribes from all over the country present bills to congress together. The issues on most reservations are the same. I would guess that the reps from these two tribes were speaking for all tribes, including the ones in Reid's state.

5. Okay, what do we have here?
Edited on Tue May-30-06 12:03 PM by pnwmom
Tribe A -- connected to Abramoff and Reid's former staffer (now working for Abramoff) -- gave $9,000 to Reid, who took "several actions" but we don't know what they were. Wish we did.

Tribe B -- Reid supposedly met with but refused to do anything for.

Tribe C. No claim of a meeting with Reid, no claim of donations to Reid. Reid says he sponsored a bill directing $100,000 to the tribe because Louisiana lawmakers asked for his help. The Tribe has separately been linked to Abramoff, but that in itself doesn't implicate Reid.

Not much here, so far -- depending on what the "several actions" were.

7. Evaluation of those actions should include
whatever his customary support for tribes had been. Remember that pre-Abramoff, Ds had far greater tribal support. "Several actions" that benefited them could easily have been based on long standing practice.

10. So?
The Abramoff taint. The last I heard, there is no law saying you can't meet with people. Even those, that were bilked out of their money by Abramoff.

Are they hoping that the mere mention of Abramoff, will somehow make Reid dirty?

Are the American people that stupid?

Soon it will be, ___insert Democrat's name here___was seen meeting with cousins of Abramoff's Clients.

___insert Democrat's name here___Met with a brother, who knew someone, who was one of Abramoff's Clients

OOOoooo :::gasp:::

The Horror!

while completely ignoring the real players in the Abramoff BRIBERY scandal.

This guilt by association crap has got to stop.

14. There was a pic here titled "Abramoff For Dummies"
It was a series of boxes marked, "Lobbyist, Client, Politician, Party" with colored lines indicating how the money flowed. One line was color coded "Legal," the other, leading from Abramoff, "Illegal"!

17. W took a day off of the campaign to watch Lay throw out the first pitch..
I mean THE first pitch at Enron field. In fact W at the time was using the Enron jet so he could very well have taken it to Houston to see his best friend and largest political supporter (in both money and support) on that day. He also had his friend "Kenny Boy" interview every single prospective appointee at Commerce and Energy who might have any kind of oversight or regulatory power concerning Enron.

Enough already or should we continue comparing "meetings"?

22. The picture of Reid and McCain at the Vegas boxing match
tells me all I needed to know about Reid.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13043895/

It might also explain why Reid voted for Gen. Hayden for CIA Director, perhaps in hope that some Nevada companies would get a juicy CIA contract.
