FBI ends search for Hoffa's body
<snip>

"The FBI is calling off its search for the body of Jimmy Hoffa on a Michigan horse farm, the agency said on Tuesday after failing to recover anything that might help solve the 31-year-old mystery of the Teamsters leader's disappearance.

In an exhaustive two week search, the FBI tore down a barn and excavated several sites on the Hidden Dreams Farm near Detroit looking for a makeshift grave said by prison inmate to contain Hoffa's remains.

The agency said it planned to brief reporters later on what it called "the conclusion of the execution of a federal search warrant in connection with the ongoing investigation into the appearance of James Riddle Hoffa."

Using cadaver dogs, ground-piercing radar, archeologists and dozens of agents, the FBI acted on a tip from a prisoner who had lived on the farm at the time of Hoffa's disappearance. Hoffa vanished from outside a restaurant some 20 miles from the farm on July 30, 1975 after showed up to meet a New Jersey Teamsters' boss and a local Mafia captain."

2. How would a cadaver dog be of any use for a body that had been dead for 31
years?

20. There is nothing to find
My opinion, he will never be found. Nothing to find if they throw a body into a vat of acid.

3. Well, I wonder what that wild goose chase cost us....
and do they have the architectural drawing/contracts for rebuilding that huge barn? Surely, Haliburton has barn builders on staff.

16. That's obscene. And, you know it will be double that, at least.
Someone wrote in to Cafferty that Hoffa was in a Detroit hospital in the maternity ward...organizing labor.

8. To bad they didn't put that much effort in the WTC crime.
Course they didn't need to with all the planted evidence (plus some of it falling from the sky). :eyes:

The FBI works for Bush and this was the latest distraction ordered up to keep the remaining 29% of the population from thinking about Iraq.

Ho-hum propaganda at best.

9. here is fbi response to using lots of taxpayer money for this:
The FBI has not revealed the cost of the search or said how many agents were involved. But last week it defended itself against criticism that it was a waste of taxpayers' money, saying it was acting on the most credible information it had had in years on Hoffa's disappearance.

10. Credible, some old geezer serving a life sentence sends these
dim wit bastards off on a wild goose chase. What a bunch of pathetic keystone cops.
Some guy on DU defended this whole boondoggle by claming that all murder cases are really serious and need full attention/ no expense spared. It was the most myopic devoid of common sense argument I had seen in a while.

15. Credible, meaning the Junta needed a distraction
After all, that is the operative definition of "credible" any time there is a high profile media event that turns out to be entirely bogus.

17. Since the FBI had one minute to devote to this then
all the terrorists must be dead. And we can have our civil liberties back.

18. That same idiot FBI which, without any sort of constitutional
authority, was stampeded into violating separation institutions and spent eighteen hours in Congressman Jefferson's office, reading his documents, and opening this incompetent administration and its pornographic AG to the gravest danger of impeachment that they have faced, so far.

Idiocy and total incompetence seems to be a fundamental requirement for today's government.

19. According to my friend
who managed the Pontiac (Mi) landfill, Hoffa is under tons of garbage. He said that when he got to work the morning after Hoffa's disappearance, he noticed some of the machinery had been moved and a culvert was filled in with garbage.

Because of all the mob characters involved in the garbage business, he kept his mouth shut for a few decades. He told me the official name of the landfill, but I forgot it.

I remember him telling me that he had to carry a gun to work, and that it was a very dangerous job because of the people he had to deal with.
